Here's a few post-processed views of the USA Women's 4x100 relay team dropping the baton after a collision. I don't think the collision caused the drop as much as Felix reacting to the other running entering her lane. Clearly there was interference though.

I honestly dont know why some people are having problems with the fact that the USA team got another chance after being tripped by the Brazilian.
Eventually Winning the gold has proven to y'all that they deserved to compete in the final race and if nothing wrong had happened they would have easily qualified. They have gotten the gold already, no need of you crying over it anymore. Grow up people and live with it!

From an Aussie point of view - I was initially angry that the US got to re-run the race and made the final but, I did not know about the contact. After watching this vid it is plain to see that contact was made and indeed the Brazilian put her foot on the line which counts as leaving your lane, instant DQ right there. The powers that be, got it right. Congrats to the US girls on the Gold.

people doesnt understand how fast these athletes run, and you can obviously see here that felix's momentum with that speed threw her off, especially when shes already preparing to pass the baton. try to drive a car going 80-90miles per hour and hit the side of another car. see what happens.

The fact remains she was too close to allison felix lane and she broke her stride there can be no interference whatsoever and she was too close to the other person's Lane if she a track and field professional she should have known better

Thanks for posting this video! No one can rightfully doubt the incident that did occur.

as a pinoy, i think they we were unintentionally bumped by the brazillians causing a collision to felix. i think it was just right and fair to be given a chance to re run given what happened.

The Brazilian runner is way out of position with her arms flailing into the USA lane. Complete spaz. Everyone offsets a little for the exchange but she's ridiculous. No sense of awareness of what's around her. At the 19 sec mark her arm is covering 20% of the USA lane. Unreal.

A lot of hate towards the US. But I don't blame a lot of you people. Living in a house with 16 cousins and 5 uncles must really suck. Goat herding for milk and using sewage for bathing. life is hard

Doesn't really looks like trip or Brazilian comes into lane but more like.... Bump of the arms unintentionally

What's interesting about the opening shot is that, a part from the US team, all the other outgoing runners arms stray into the adjacent lane, and so avoiding those arms should be part of relay racing mentality.

Nearly everybody on this thread is talking nonsense! There are claims of interference "all the time" in track and field. Some become part of an official enquiry and some are just talked about by fans and commentators. Nearly ALL such cases of impediment are open to interpretation. Now, in the 4x100m relay, at changeovers, the outgoing runners arms always "stray" into the adjacent lane space. THIS IS INEVITABLE - and unavoidable - because at the point of handing over the baton, there will be two athletes trying to fit into a lane designed for one athlete.
The incoming athlete can’t approach the ongoing athlete from directly behind otherwise there will be a collison! No, the incoming athlete must be towards the outside of the lane and the outgoing athlete must be positioned towards the inside of the lane.
So, this will mean, at times - INEVITABLY - there will be clashes with other runners.
Now, THREE things happened here! A) the American out-going athlete positioned herself in the middle of the lane ( unlike all the other athletes who were close to the inside of the lane)
B) Because the US team were running so fast, Allyson arrived at the changeover when the Brazilian women was just taking off and swinging her arms most vigorously ( which is ALWAYS going to happen in the first few strides)
C) The Brazilian stepped on the line.
Two things to consider...and learn from. Had the out-going US athlete ( like all the other women) positioned herself nearer the inside of the lane, the “clash” may not have occurred.
2) Had Allyson - knowing that arms ALWAYS INEVITABLY stray in to the next lane - been prepared to avoid the swinging arm, the clash may not have happened.
Now, had the Brazilian women NOT stepped on the line, but the the clash had still happened, it would not have meant that her team would have been automatically disqualified BECAUSE “arms straying into adjacent lanes is an ineviatable, and unavoidable, result of the way relays are organised” .
So, stepping on the line was clearly grounds for disqualifying the Brazilians, and because the clash happened while the Brazilians were performing an illegal move, in was inevitable - and only fair - that the US team would be given the chance go through to the final.
