I'm been using OMV for my server needs for years but I avoid using docker because of the complexity.I install directly on Debian. I just tried casaos and love the simplicity of the app installs. I see in the comments that installing casaos on top of OMV works. Thats my next project.

I use CasaOS on my Pi5 as a docker management and dashboard. The storage stuff and other heavy lifting is done by my Synology NAS'es. 💪

I gave OMV a try but use containers extensively. The way OMV decided to remove Portainer and insist on their own complex UI, was a real put off. That’s the kind of approach I see from pfsense and Freenas, where community preferences are ignored and things are decided regardless.

I would like you to make a video om how to install some kind of linux on a USB stick to be able to start the machine with no mount in kind of service mood. Where I can do actions like repair a disc.
I have been using OMV from number 4 i think when you did a video on how to install. Over time I have missed follow up videos with all our questions. Or maybe a new Live again. Would be much appreciated, . Thanks for all your videos

Wetty try to connect to ssh server in port 2222. Your ssh server is listening to port 22 (standard ssh port). I think that this was the reason for your connection failure...

I like to point out that OMV has PhotoPrism as a plugin so there is no need to install docker to have it up and running.

Hi Techno dad, I would appreciate your advice. I am looking for a best OS for dockers and virtual machines. I like CasaOS. But can it also manage the virtual machines? Or could Debian hosting CasaOS carry also something else for the virtual machines paralely?? I like your videos. Lots of interesting topics. Thanks👍

Just wondering, I tried for 3 days on 3 different computer to install OMV6 onto another USB stick and only had it 1 time booting but not into the web UI. Is that still a thing or is it just not possible anymore to install OMV6 onto a USB stick to run? Also, is there an easy way to install CasaOS parallel with OMV?

Great quality video as usual. As others have said in the comments the 'openness' of the CasaOS and the file system keeps me away from it right now. You touched on it a little around the 10:50 mark. I need the ability to lock down files based on particular users/groups, so OMV is still the recommendation from my perspective - but we all have different needs.

I hadn't heard of CasaOS before this, so thank you for putting this out there! It's great to see comparisons and options presented.

Can I ask a question? I have an OMV installation on a big Raid volume 17TB and don't know how safe is it to upgrade the OMV version because they always mention to "have a backup" and I cannot backup 17TB just in case.. What is your experience with this?

One if the things that so far put me away form casaos is that all its containers are instalked in the same os drive. Only after deplying i can edit and change yhe storage logation of the containers.
I would need either the possibility to set path before deploying or have the possibility to add a default location.
So far could not find the way

Unless I'm missing something, sharing folders with casaos makes them public without restrictions. No control over this currently. I don't recommend using this feature. It's a nice front-end for docker containers though.

I use both on the same server. OMV for file systems, users and shared folder and CasaOS for my containers.

Why not both? Would it be possible to ad Casa to OMV?

My computer running on Windows 11 24H2.
Immediarly after installing 24H2 I had problems to access my WD NAS.
Short after that warnings for these problems passing on internet
Now I'm thinking about building my own NAS, I found your very interesting video.
For me now the question is; "Can I access CasaOS from my Windows 11 24H2 computers wihout problems ??"

I now have installed casaos on top of OMV on rpi4, rpi3 and a dell laptop. I can tell you that everything works great only concern is to install and setup OMV complete first. Then change :80 to something else temporally install Casaos change its port. Then OMV can be changed back to :80. I have Plex and Web-Calibre running now.

OMV is better for NAS as CasaOS for Docker, they have difrente scopes....

Still very much in beta but how about ZimaOS? CasaOS evolved and will support raid.

CasaOS is fine if your fine without any kind drive resiliency and fine only able to use the file transfer via a browser.

It still lacks what a basic NAS can do, for starters there is no SMB (Windows File Sharing) support, sure you can install it via terminal but OMV cam set that up with a few clicks.
