'Great advantage': Rishi Sunak is 'economically literate'

Former foreign minister Alexander Downer says it will be a “great advantage” for the UK to have an “economically literate” leader in Rishi Sunak.

“I think he’s one of those people who focuses very much on policy, and we’re going to see how good he is at politics, of course, but he focuses very much on policy,” Mr Downer told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

“He’s intellectually very smart, he understands policy issues, importantly, he understands economics, not just in an academic sense, but … he’s been a very successful businessman as well.”
