For anyone interested - the Irish language only has 18 letters. As a result Irish words (including Irish names) contain these odd looking letter combinations to make up for sounds that the English alphabet assigns to the letters j, k, q, v, w, x, y and z.

Ruaidhri is where the name Rory comes from, and means red king (Rua=red, Rí = king)

I swear Irish names are just passwords with extra security features. Good luck guessing ‘Neeve’ on the first try.

This was the list they gave that woman who was reading the graduates off before they entered the stage.

Guys, you're only just used to Anglo-saxon, or Anglo-amero names. Don't you think that Philip, Hugh, Chloe, Charlotte or Sophie are unusual to Spanish speakers‽

Irish has digraphs and diphthongs just like English, except that they're consistent in sound in Irish, unlike English; pear, shear, tough and though

Theo, you couldn’t pronounce my name if you tried baby dawg! The two Ss’s have different intonations. The H, is not silent and the combination of Hr gives it a whole different annunciation.

Do it! 😂❤

Its hilarious that so many think we spell these names wrong or funny. All those names are Gaelic names that is how they are supposed to be spelled. The first Gaelic Christians monks adopted the Latin alphabet for the Gaelic language around 6th century. Letters like K, V, Y, W, X, Q, j were not part of the alphabet. Each of those names has a meaning like Freedom, Warrior, Friend, Bringer of light etc..
