BMW i4 M50 review: an engineering triumph

In an EV increasingly populated by SUVs, trucks, and the tiny SUVs we call crossovers, it’s refreshing to have another actual electric car option. But the 2022 BMW i4 M50 is more than just a sedan with an EV powertrain shoved inside. It’s a fine-tuning of suspension, chassis, and power that should give those looking at future BMW EVs a reason to be excited.

Starting at $67,300, the all-wheel drive performance Gran Coupe delivers M power in a package that’s actually quite comfortable on long road trips. The i4 M50 might take a range hit, compared to the regular i4, but if you’re looking for an outstanding driver experience both on the twisties and on the highway, this is definitely worth looking at while shopping for your next electric car.

You either had an old version of iDrive 8 or it’s not supported in the US yet. But here in Europe the i4 navigation precisely tells you where and when to charge when you’re going on a longer road trip, and it even tells you how long the charging stops will take.

The chassis control is explained by the unique air suspension in the rear that helps level that weight out much better than just the reg adaptive suspension. Handling still stays sharp thanks to the sportier springs in the front.

A very good review. I purchased mine because it is just like a conventional car. The only thing missing for me is a rear wash wipe and it is a pain to turn off the lane correction system before setting off.

As an i3 driver, I don't get why BMW made a new electric car based on the platform of a ICE car that they make.
Everything I've seen and heard about the i4 and the i4 M50 are nothing short of spectacular, but to me it's a real head scratcher.

0-60 is 3.2 not 3.7 have to be in sport boost mode though. mines nearly ready. final checks happening. so excited!!

I was going to get it, but this car just looks like a straight conversion from the gasoline counterpart. The exhausts covers and big front grill shouldn’t exist on this car.

Interestingly there was no mention of the tires; they look like runflats. My experience with those has been a nightmare driving America's pot-hole infested highways in a lighter BMW.
