EV vs ICE drag races don’t get much better than this!

Mat’s lining up in his long-term BMW M3 Competition, and alongside him we have BMW’s all-new electric performance saloon, the i4 M50!

Now the i4 may not be a fully-fledged M car, but it still packs a pump, delivering 544hp & 794Nm of torque from its two electric motors. What’s more, it’s also equipped with four-wheel drive!

In contrast, the M3 seems down on power, with its 3-litre straight-six putting down 510hp & 650Nm. What’s more, it’s only delivering its power through the rear wheels! However, the M3 has one key advantage over the i4 - it weighs 1730kg, whereas the i4 tips the scales at 2,215kg!

It's scary to think that's only the sDrive M3. It has God-like traction off the line for a RWD car. I can only image how crazy the xDrive M3 must be.

The I4 M50 drives so well... comfortable like an E Class and almost as sporty as an best car I have ever driven.

Great comparison. What I'm taking away is that as someone who never really goes beyond three digits on the public roads, the i4 really does have more usable straight-line performance for any journey I'd make . But as someone who's had many a BMW six-cylinder engine in his life I'd still have more fun in the M3

Something really important to note, and why the M3 might appear to be REALLY quick, is that the i4 m50 hard caps at 141mph. I had a press car from BMW and it keeps pulling hard to 141mph then abruptly stops at the limiter

Little suggestion : I think it would be cool if there was an aerial camera shot from a drone in these drag races it would be awesome to see from a birds eye view !

Is the i4 driver just recognising that all 544hp are available only in SPORT BOOST MODE at 06:39?
