The SEBI Chairwoman Madhavi Buch has refuted allegations of conflict of interest, stating that her investment was made in 2015 while she was living in Singapore, two years before her appointment as SEBI Chief. The opposition has called for her resignation, questioning the integrity of SEBI. Allegations against the Adani Group include illegal share ownership and price manipulation. Madhabi Buch has given a reasonable explanation for her investment in IPE Plus Fund 1. However, he explanation on other two matters is not that convincing. She needs to disclose the sources of her income from consultancy business since 2015. Is there any conflict of interest there? In any case, her financial dealings need to be investigated thoroughly as a legitimate suspicion has been raised on her association with people like Anil Ahuja and ideally she should step aside until that is completed.
