Afib, Aflutter, Junctional Arrhythmias | ECG EKG Interpretation (Part 4)

For our 4th lesson, we continue our look at atrial and junctional arrhythmias.

We start off talking about one of the most common arrhythmias that you will come across in your patients, which is atrial fibrillation or afib. We give you some of the basic info that should help to identify this common but potentially serious arrhythmia.

From there we move on to talk about atrial flutter or aflutter. We explain and show how this differs from afib and give you some pointers and criteria that should help in its identification and differentiation from afib.

Lastly, we talk about our various junctional rhythms that you will see. We explain about where a junction rhythm comes from, as well as what are its unique and defining characteristics. We also talk about the different variations of junctional rhythms, including accelerated junctional and junctional tachycardia.

Hopefully by the end of this lesson you will be able to easily identify these 3 arrhythmias and be able to know the key characteristics to be able to tell each of them apart from one another.

Stay tuned for the next lesson in our series on ECG/EKG Interpretation, in which we continue our discussion on arrhythmias and talk about ventricular arrhythmias! **COMING SOON**

Thank you guys so much for watching! Please leave us a like if you enjoyed the video. We truly do appreciate it! Also we love hearing your comments so feel free to tell us what you think of the video. We hope that after this lesson, you will have a good understanding of the main types of atrial arrhythmias and junctional arrhythmias. Aflutter and even more so afib are some common rhythms you will come across in your practice. The junctional rhythms are less common, but we hope after watching this lesson that you will be able to identify those key characteristics and feel more confident in being able to identify this rhythm.

Eddie, thank you for making these! They're really well done refreshers, and I've been inviting coworkers over for post-work beverages... And turning these on. They say they hate it, but they keep coming back, and I've seen a difference in how we approach cardiac issues (surgical/trauma... We need all the help we can get)! Thanks so much.

This is well detailed and easily understanding. You are better off than my lecturers. They complicate everything combined. I am no more scared of ECG. Thank you very much. I am grateful to Holy Spirit of God Almighty for taking me to your channel. I was devastated confused and scared if I will ever know ecg but after praying to Holy Spirit to wake me by 4am and teach me ecg. He woke me up that time and took me to your channel. I am no longer scared of ECG. Once again more knowledge to do more I pray Amen.

I literally cannot thank you enough for these. I'm 4 videos into this series now, and as a labor and delivery nurse who wants to specialize in our OBICU, I am currently in an arrythmia class. I've been in obstetrics as a post partum nurse and have my ACLS and PALS as well as my NRP, but this is so much better for a visual learner like me. The colors, the drawings, the sample EKGs, chefs kiss. Well done friend. As one nurse to another, I commend you and I hope I can help others with this info as well!

I appreciate the lessons you've provided on ECGs. As a RN for almost 20 years, I am transitioning from MS to Step-down and need this education for my new role. Well explained, great job and thank you for sharing!

I finally found someone to teach EKG the way I understand. The way you explain what is electrically happening with the SA node for it to create the AFIB strip for example, makes us paint a picture of the situation and correlate this picture with the EKG line. Thanks you!

How would one differentiate from an "atrial fibrillation with a slow ventricular response" and a "junctional escape rhythm" or "junctional bradycardia"? It is my understanding that you can still have a junctional escape rhythm with R-R irregularity (synonymous to a sinus arrhythmia).

Thank you for making these videos. I’m a student major in medical examination. The ECG/EKG bother me for long time. And your videos clearly delivered the central knowledge to differentiate the character of these syndrome. BTW, i subscribed.
