Waymo passenger gets stuck in a roundabout on way to Sky Harbor

A man’s Waymo ride to the Sky Harbor International Airport took an unexpected turn when his autonomous vehicle got stuck circling a roundabout in a parking lot for several minutes.

He should not have been upset when customer service said they needed him to go into the app. He said he would have preferred for them to take over the car. Really?! Do you really want a customer service rep being able to take control over your car?

I live in Los Angeles. These Waymo cars drive by my house multiple times PER HOUR. My neighbors have taken rides in them. I have walked across the street in front of them. ZERO PROBLEMS . . . . All the people online who complain online about Waymo, probably have never seen one in person . . . I get it, that there is a "fear the future" trope on the Internet, but for those of you interested in reality, I have seen these Waymo cars, and it's no big deal - I'm more afraid of humans driving and texting.

I wonder why they didnt code some exit to the loop? There is no legit reason for a car to make more than 3 loops before it should either just stop or park in the nearest available parking spot.

I’ve said this many times… I am a software engineer, no matter what you do these things are dangerous. What happens when the computer or sensors fail? This is not a good idea.

This dude is the one who chose to use Waymo, then freaks out when there is the glitch so he calls customer service and gives them a hard time. Bottom line he chose to use their service to catch a flight, and his main concern he says is he'll miss his flight. Who's fault is that? I suspect he intentionally exploited this for likes, attention, and of course profit and his 15 minutes of shame. If he was really worried about his flight or his safety he would just get out of the car; he wasn't locked in.

I like the idea but it is way too soon for them to be operating. Lots of unexpected situations that they haven't encountered yet.
