Over eight months, the researchers will conduct rounds of diagnostic tests using nasal swabs to identify infections. And they will take saliva and blood samples to look for antibodies, which would indicate that such people had had COVID-19 and recovered — perhaps without ever realizing they’d been infected with the coronavirus.

You May Be Infected With Coronavirus and Not Know It

25% of the infected may be asymptomatic

CDC Director On Models For The Months To Come: 'This Virus Is Going To Be With Us'

I have been saying this for a long time.

1 in 4 people can be asymptomatic

One of the [pieces of] information that we have pretty much confirmed now is that a significant number of individuals that are infected actually remain asymptomatic. That may be as many as 25%. That's important, because now you have individuals that may not have any symptoms that can contribute to transmission, and we have learned that in fact they do contribute to transmission.
And finally, of those of us that get symptomatic, it appears that we're shedding significant virus in our oropharyngeal compartment, probably up to 48 hours before we show symptoms. This helps explain how rapidly this virus continues to spread across the country, because we have asymptomatic transmitters and we have individuals who are transmitting 48 hours before they become symptomatic.

Pediatrician says 80% of kids likely have coronavirus, but they're so asymptomatic you'd never know
Children are asymptomatic, mildly symptomatic, or note tested. But they are spreading the virus. ...

With regard to "Death Rate, " we do not yet know, since we don't know how many people in any given population have been infected, be it symptomatic or not. The death rate could be much lower, since the denominator of the fraction will be much high, resulting in lower adjusted rate of death. Deaths divided by total number of population infected.

Everytime I hear about asymptomatic cases I think "wow that would be the ideal way to get to COVID".

At the beginning of quarantine I had what I thought was a bug bite on my toes. I woke up in the middle of the night with a “fever” of 99.8. I was shivering and my foot ached. For the next week I just felt off. I had headaches, I didn’t eat and at night I had these panic attacks that would last for hours. My heart would race and I was short of breath. Sometimes I felt the chills of a slight fever but took Tylenol and it went away. I attributed all of these symptoms to a spider bite either venomous or an allergic reaction. I ended up with cellulitis in my foot and took a 10 day round of antibiotics. The more I think about this episode the more I think I had Covid.

If an 11 year old boy with fever, loss of taste, muscle pain, and exhaustion, but is not eligible for COVID19 testing due to (young age, no contact with others known to have virus, etc...) and then patient tests negative for the flu, could that be a red flag that they are COVID19 positive? or is testing negative for flu also common?

If a person is asymptomatic after contracting SARS-COV2, he shouldn't be considered sick nor diseased. Am i right?

There was a case in Nepal.
A woman who had a normal delivery on may 6, discharged on may 7.
The woman reproted a fever and respiratory difficulties shortly after returning home and was treated at local health centre. After her condition worsened, she was referred to dhulikhel hospital on may 14.she died on the way to the hospital .
The surprising thing was that the baby and all the people who came in contact with the woman were tested negative. How is it possible?

If CV can enter the body through eye mucosa, then the virus go to the microcirculaton and from there to all organs- including lungs

How do they know they were pre-symptomaticly shedding. The only thing I've read so far as they were tracking people who 'tested positive'. But neither the pre-symptomatic nor the alleged receivers we're isolated, so the receivers could have acquired it from another source.

I have been having a sore throat with phlegm for more than a month. I am extremely careful and do not go out without a mask. I did go to a crowded place yesterday. My family members and I were the only ones wearing mask. The soreness has increased today. Getting a little worried.

Good discussion Doc! I was wondering how long the virus can be "spread" by a patient that has recovered & no longer has symptoms? Or, on the other hand, by someone who is asymptomatic? The reason that I am asking is because we have good friends (husband & wife) who have been infected & are slowing recovering. So, how long should we wait before socializing with them again? Finally, can you talk about the possibility of treatment with Remdesivir or possibly with Tetracyclines? Thanks & stay safe 😉😉👍👍

P.S. This pandemic has hit our family hard because a few days ago we lost a cousin to COVID-19!!
