Umidigi F2 - Sim and SD card insert

Umidigi F2 has a single tray with cutouts to install Micro SD, Sim2 and Sim1. This video shows how you can eject sim/microSD tray and insert the card.
If you only have one sim, I suggest that you insert in the mannar that I has demonstrated in the video.

The sim I have is not a micro sim, so does the card fit into the slot without the tray?

You never turned on the phone to prove that it works. You didn't explain what the sim card does or demonstrate it on the working phone.
