A review of the UMIDIGI F2 Android smartphone.

The Umidigi F2 was announced back in October 2019 as their flagship Android smartphone. The main selling points were the 32MP selfie camera, the 48MP AI Quad cameras at the back and the huge battery inside. Three months since we’ve had the phone as our daily driver, is it worth it?

UMIDIGI F2 Review

Good review. I purchased an Umidigi F2 in January after dropping and smashing my S8+. I had 3 months to run on my contract so I thought I would risk a cheap import phone from Gear Best for £150. My plan was to try it and after the 3 months either stick with it or get a new contract phone.

My initial impressions pretty much echo your review. Fast responsive, display. Decent memory and storage. Stock Android 10 (IIRC it actually refers to "customising your Pixel"). Apps run fine.

As a phone the audio is questionable. Granted I live in a area with dubious reception, but this phone did seem to drop out more than usual. Whilst making calls I was often asked to repeat what I said because audio was dropping out. Audio on bluetooth seemed fine but audio on the 3.5mm seemd less convincing. However 99.9% of the time it all worked as intended.

Audio playback was not great, and audio books seemed to emphasise sibilance to the point it was hard to listen to.

Cameras - not good. I had high hopes based on the specs and whilst I didn't expect it to match the S8+ it was a real disappointment. Poor light made the viewing screen update speed slow down to a judder and in general the results were just disappointing.

Battery life is amazing; often hitting 4 days before recharging. But I soon realised this was partly down to the fact I just didn't use the phone as much as before because there was little enjoyment in doing so.

Now my contract has ended I have bought a OnePlus 7T Pro which is a delight to use by comparison, even if it did cost over 3 times that of the F2!

Did alot of research and finally purchased via Amazon. I was soooo excited tho took forever to arrive. Camera a disappointment. EVERY time I take a picture, after I retrieve it the pictures all slowly darken! Not alot but enough to affect them where you can't see the picture clearly.

But my MAIN issue that has occurred 6x in the 7 weeks I've had the phone and is actually going on now, is the MICROPHONE that just suddenly quits working for no apparent reason. Sometimes as you are talking to someone! I was told to turn on Touch Sounds and that would fix it permanently. It did fix it. But NOT permanently. It also means that every time you touch a key etc you will hear an annoying click sound that gets worse by the minute! But it quit 6x more, and it's actually not working right now! I need a reliable phone. At least one where I can make and receive calls. It's life and death for me potentially as I live alone with my dogs and a restraining order. If I needed the police or 911 RIGHT NOW I wouldnt be able to! And I've no clue when, or IF, it will come back on. I paid $279 for the F2 tho I've seen it on eBay for$100 cheaper. It's unavailable on Amazon right now and I'm trying to get the customer support that was supposed to come with my purchase. In my current situation I cannot afford to just buy another phone! I DO like how fast it is and all the storage but if I can't count on it to work when I need it then it's not going to work for me.

Beware. This microphone issue is pretty common! I'd love to hear any suggestions!

After a year of use, I have a few comments: in general, the phone works fine, I had a problem with the loss of the microphone, but after the factory reset everything works. The fingerprint does not always work after putting the phone in the case.

What i do not understand is how some of this phones have superb cameras and others don't. I've seen pictures on the micro mode from other channels, they are bright, detailed and colour accurate.

I had one of these but had to return it due to the headphone jack bug - either it played nothing or sounded like an 8-bit downsample. Microphone problem too (see other comments - these are very common). Fingerprint scanner is not very reliable. The phone would light up when stored in a leather case. And you cannot set separate ringtones for the two SIMs. These ought to be fixed pretty easily with a software update, but there hasn't been one in a year. Shame, it ought to be a great phone - especially with the real (non-hybrid) dual-SIM slot.

Also, would you recommend this phone as a daily driver?

Umidigi F2 have many issues with mic and speakers, don't buy.

Is the fingerprint sensor an actual button for the power? Or is it just a sensor?

I find that the touch sensitivity on the F2 has a minor delay when scrolling.
No updates for this type of phone, idk, I'd probably not want to give it access to my bank info. Just saying.

I must have lucked out with my F1. Cam is good and it is much lighter without the stupid glass back. Paid $142.50.

Wait. Screen usage since last full charge is 2 hours 6 minutes. Yet there is only 58% of battery left. So, you only get around 4 hours of screen time for one full battery charge? Given that this has a huge 5150 ahrs battery, that's pretty appalling isn't it?

Very disappointed signal strength very poor can not send messages can't receive calls. And camera basically sucks . Will never buy any of UMIDIGI again! Have Verizon server. Husband has no problem with his I phone 6

Der Ear speakerbug Lautsprecherbug ist leider oft vorhanden! Andere hören mich nicht.
Vom Hersteller keinerlei reaktion!
Da geht bei mir nur freisprechen oder im Auto mit Bluetooth. Umidigi sitzt das aus!👹

The worst camera out there. Got big battery and big screen. Would not recommend if you want a useable camera. I got regrets.
