The Replacements' "Alex Chilton" is a send-up saluting a musical hero of theirs (well, at least frontman, Paul Westerberg, if not the whole band), Alex Chilton, who was a member of two different bands from the '60s and '70s: The Boxtops; and Big Star, respectively. He also collaborated with the 'Mats as producer of one of their mid-late career albums (might even be the album on which this very song can be found, Pleased To Meet Me)
