How to kill POISON IVY without toxic chemicals PART 2

So after I found poison ivy growing in the back of my yard, I wanted to get rid of it without using toxic chemicals. So I made a homemade weed killer using 1/2 cup of salt, 1/2 tablespoon of dish soap and ½ gallon of vinegar. Afterwards, I put the mixture in a spray bottle and sprayed the poison ivy a few times a day for a few days. I also poured boiling water on the roots of the plant. I noticed that the leaves of the plant began wilting just a few hours after I sprayed them. Anyway, right around this time, I went on a 3 week vacation and when I came back, I noticed that all of the poison ivy was completely gone! But did it stay gone? A year later, it came back. I knew I needed to take more action, so my husband and I (mostly my husband) dug out the roots. It was not fun and it took a while, but now, 2 years later, there are ZERO SIGNS of poison ivy anywhere in our backyard.

If you can dig out the roots, I highly recommend that. But if you can't, then keep using a vinegar mix and spray it on the poison ivy anytime you see it emerge.

You are going to need a shovel and the power of Grayskull. 😊

I've used sprectracide weed killer to wipe out poison oak closest to my house (front porch and back patio) plus part of our tree line. It hasn't returned by my house at all but it can take multiple applications to kill it in place. Digging it up in my tree line isn't an option. Too many tree roots to go through. I have found that using a clear chair floor mat over top under full sun also kills everything under it.

Not wanting to use those terrible chemicals, we have dug out that terrible plant by the roots....it's really the only way if you don't like using chemicals that does who knows what to our environment!!! Thanks for the good vid!!! ❤️❤️❤️

You did this correctly. You must dig out the roots. It comes back year after year

Ortho, makes it wilt instantly and kills down to the root..

Got rid of mine by spraying hot salt water on the plant, then following up with some concentrated boiling salt water on the roots the next day.

Then i just took the dead plants out and remulched that area.

We spray our yard with weed killer each year-garden hose attachment. I’m super allergic to poison ivy, etc. We might have 1 or 2 plants pop up and then we spray them individually.

I wish it were this easy for me… It’s shown up in my back yard, but it’s not coming up in an area that’s at all easy to get to. Pretty sure it’s originating from behind a shed, which neighbors have put up fences thisclose to on two sides, and then there are at least two other vines (Grape and English Ivy) blanketing the area as well, so can’t dig up just one thing… it’s basically a vine thicket back there :/

I'm trying thick layers of cardboard covered with grass clippings and spraying whatever sneaks out with 50% vinegar bought from Amazon. I'm Trying.

Update us when it pops up again. It 100% is coming back. If not in that same spot, look a few feet away.
