CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Ray's (C.J. Sanders) mother (Sharon Warren) helps him adjust when he loses his sight.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
Directed by Taylor Hackford, this biopic profiles the life of legendary musician Ray Charles. Despite humble beginnings and the loss of his eyesight due to glaucoma at the age of six, Charles, depicted by Jamie Foxx, would nonetheless become an icon in both the music industry and the civil rights era. While the film delves into his problems with drugs and women, the bulk of the story details his career; among the highlights of that career are 12 Grammy awards and 11 R&B chart-toppers, such as "Unchain My Heart," "Hit the Road, Jack," "Georgia," "Doin' the Mess Around," and "Hallelujah I Just Love Her So." Also among the cast are Larenz Tate as Quincy Jones, as well as Regina King, Kerry Washington, and Clifton Powell. Charles' son, Ray Charles Jr. helped produce the film.

Can you picture how scary that must be to be so young? I know that you're going blind? That you'll never see again?

“Remember, You goin’ blind but you ain’t stupid.”
So, that’s where he got “I’m blind but I ain’t stupid” from.

I can't believe that when she said "wipe those eyes" I thought she was talking to me.

Imagine just how strong in love, in character and in conviction that woman HAD to have been to so boldly face that kind of challenge being an impoverished single Black mother in the Deep South during that era.

He was born in the wrong decade. Today, what he went through could've been prevented.

It's interesting to learn that Both Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder were born seeing, and became blind as children.. The toughest scene to watch in this movie is when Ray falls and cries for his mom to come save him.. she looks on in the background, but doesn't come to help him... He figures out on his own how to stand and uses his ears and sense of touch to get up... Perhaps with modern medicine he would have been discouraged from rubbing his eyes so much and his sight could have been aided and saved..

I love the way Ray'smom act's. She doesn't try to coddle him she tells him straight how it is. She tells him life isn't fair and people don't care. A brilliant life lesson for everyone out there👍👍

She seems like such a perfect mom honestly. Strict, but caring.

This is an absolutely brilliant scene. Jamie Fox did an amazing job as Ray (and this is coming from someone who's been visually impaired all her life), but the mother in this scene is wonderful. Her attitude is spot-on, especially for back then. From an insider's point of view, yes, there are hardships with being blind, but you can learn to live with the physical aspects of it; it's the stereotypes and pity that are the real handicaps. To quote Helen Keller, "The chief handicap of the blind is not blindness. It is the attitude of the sighted towards them."

It's really hard to watch this scene, I cry every time. I can't even begin to imagine how hard it is to lose something so important as eye sight. Rest in peace, Ray. You deserve everymoment of peace. :)

That has to be one of the most terrifying aspects. Knowing the inevitability of losing your sight
