Antibacterial resistance (also called antimicrobial resistance or AMR) is a global health emergency, but when you’re sick all you want to do is feel better as soon as possible. University of Oxford researchers are developing a new test for bacterial infections to make that possible, while also contributing to more effective antibiotic stewardship – a key component of global efforts to combat the dangerous rise of antibiotic-resistant infections.

The Oxford Martin Programme on Antimicrobial Resistance Testing is developing a new type of medical test powered by AI that is portable and accessible anywhere, from a hospital to a pharmacy to a field tent serving victims of a natural disaster. The aim is to be able to determine the cause of an infection and how best to treat it, all within 30 minutes.
