This sounds like absolute snake oil.

I get this is basically an advertisement, but there is a lot about blocking access from devices and seeing how much data each of those used (which I can get from my router) but absolutely no information about how this box does its job in terms of IoT devices and how it makes them "more secure". When that happens in advertisements, it usually means it's not that good at what it says it is.

It must be a pile of poo if the efficacy of the product isn't even focussed on, as it probably would fail hard at doing anything at all, except scamming you of 100 smackeroonies a year.

This feels like this is a pretty shameful product and deserves more scrutiny, rather than being sold as something to buy and subscribe to. As an extension of this, makes Linus Tech Tips less reputable if they will just shill any scammy product with a silver bullet quality as they basically waive all editorial rights to these companies for each one of the "showcases".

I wish that the channel kept its review vibe and put these showcased products under the microscope when it comes to these and even (dare I say it) be able to say if something is good or bad or downright not worth 99 bucks a year. This is why I'm annoyed at these.

The title is "How insecure is my home network?" but we'll never know because it's just an advertisement. I expected practical examples and comparisons (which is a hallmark of the usual Linus video). The expectation of this video felt that was about checking how to secure my home network or at least check for flaws, but all I got from it was a video claiming to fix it all with no real details of how effective it was, except fleecing you of your money with a catch-all box that claims soooo much but no reason to actually believe it.

Each one of these videos erodes any trust we have in Linus or this channel. Which really sucks.

If subscriber retention is a big deal to them, they should maybe look at how they deal with these type of videos.

Now if they'd actually answer the question "How insecure is my home network?" as a proper Linus video, that would be great.

what does this actually do to make iot devices more secure? it felt like there was a build up of how all these devices around our homes are insecure but then skipped to blocking kids internet access (which in my experience most isp routers these days have an option for that).



i understand lmg is a business with bills etc but i feel like content creators need to be a lot more careful with security related sponsorships/ads.
