A lot of families have wiFi security cameras around and inside their home so turning off wiFi when vacationing would not be an option, especially if you say want to view your home from your smart phone while away. The other tips you mentioned are great though thank you.

Not having any of that internet of things crap is the best advice.

Thank for the great advices...however I may disagree with number five, as we may need remote access to cameras installed at home

Thank you Josh, I do have a question though is there a way to detect if someone is using your WiFi? If so is there a way to prevent it?

You left out some other much needed measures to secure a router - disable UPnP if not using a game console, use WPA2 or WPA3, and check your router logs for intrusion attempts.

Good tips - though I just connected my garage door opener to WiFi which negates the turn off WiFi when not home suggestion. Make sure you don’t have security cameras attached to WiFi also.

A small remark. Disabling WiFi when you are away from your house is good for computer security. But it's less good for home security as everyone knows you are away.

you can't turn off your home wifi while on vacation if you have security cameras connected to your wifi

Kaspersky has a password protect feature that's the best I can do! Is it possible we have a case of BIAS ON PARADE?

Instead of turning off wifi, would it be as good to turn off broadcast of the wifi SSID(s) once your connections are made? This could be a full-time setting and you would have to provide guests both the guest SSID and its passcode.

I am looking to hide my SSID and of course with this, my WPS is disabled. I have read that this is usually better but wanted to ask your take on it. Would it be considered better practice to hide my SSID and disable my WPS with it?
