In long drive do not use external air intake open. When you open it so many dust and polution particals enter in air filter. And this cause bad smell problem leter. Instead of it you can open windows for a minute. Entire car filled with fresh air. This is my technique I am using for more than 15 years. It really works well. Please try this and get good results. General recommendation is the opposite. First use internal circulation to quickly decrease temperature, then switch to external. Otherwise you try to cool down the car but suck in more hot air. Opening windows for short time also helps air leave the car. Where should the harmful gases come from?
