A middle ear infection is a condition that occurs when a virus or bacteria causes the air-filled space behind the eardrum to become inflamed.
• Also called otitis media, a middle ear infection is the most common type of ear infection individuals face.
• This condition is more prevalent in children than in adults. The Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford estimates that middle ear infections occur in 80% of children by the time they reach age 3.
• It is easier for parents to recognize the condition in children who are able to articulate how they are feeling than in infants and toddlers.
• Hearing problems and other serious complications can develop from long-term exposure to ear infections – persistent or frequent ear infections, persistent fluid in the middle ear.
• These complications may include impaired hearing, the spread of infection, tearing of eardrum, and even speech and developmental delay.

Some other conditions that may result in similar middle ear problems or that may be related to an ear infection may include:

• Otitis media with effusion (OME) which occurs when mucus and fluid persist or continue to build up in the middle ear after an infection has resolved. It may also occur following some dysfunction or noninfectious blockage of the Eustachian tube.
• Acute otitis media, this types comes on quickly and is accompanied by swelling and redness in the ear.

I waited six months to feel better. I got ear infections from allergies last summer. Massage and physical exercises helps. Avoiding salty, coffee and chocolate helped. I thought it was major case of hearing loss and vertigo. Thank God I feel better now.

I am just now getting over an ear infection. IT WAS I didnt have much pain but I did have pressure in my sinuses and my balance was off pretty bad for about 6 to 8 weeks. My doctor said mine was caused by allergies. Omg. I DO NOT!! Want to go through this ever again. Not being able to feel normal and constantly dizzy for weeks was exhausting! Good luck to everyone!!!

What is true about an ear infection?
1) PO antibiotics are given in otitis externa
2) PO antibiotics are given in otitis media
3) Ear drops are part of the treatment of otitis media
4) Cerumen suction is part of the treatment of otitis media

Due to this otitis middle ear infection my father is suffering from hearing loss and bells palsy....doctor operated my father left ear...now he is better without any pain but he lost his hearing😢😢😢 it's very difficult to communicate with him.. .The doctor said that my father needs 6 weeks to recover from an ear infection.

Sadly I suffer from ear infections all the time, at least five a year since I was three yrs old, I have my fifth one this year now. The doctor said I have to live with it. It's horrible and annoying.

I'm experiencing it now..my head is totally aching that I couldn't sleep because of the pain in my ear and head and also in my jaw..I can't open my mouth wider or I can't speak loud because everytime I speak my head and ears are aching ..I'm super nervous right now..I just have eardrops that the doctor recommended for me..but it doesn't lessen the pain..and swelling..I'm 3 months pregnant so the doctor did not recommend me to take oral antibiotics ..I feel so helpless..I'm just praying that the baby in my womb would not be affected by my stress..😔🥺🙏 I hope and pray that we all be healed in Jesus Name..amen..♥️🙏
