A few comments on here about not being able to find and install on a new SSD. I had this issue too, and the workaround was needing to install Monterey first on the original Apple SSD. One that was done, it detected the new one. I believe it needs the firmware update from Monterey first.

Successful upgrade from 500GB to 1TB running Monterey (12.x.x.) with just a couple of issues. The SSD was not recognised by the Mac initially and I had to use Disk Utility from the Recovery Startup option to both initialise & format the drive to APFS (for Monterey). It would help if this step was included in the video as a check. After that the issues were that the Mac kept picking up Sierra or Catalina from internet recovery which failed. After it decided to install Monterey, it was ok (Apple problem I guess). Your video doesn't include replacement of the sticky tape from the old SSD. I wondered if that was conductive tape to bridge the shielding as the new SSD has a plastic label over the chip which would render the tape superfluous. Also, since new, the Mac has never booted from a shutdown state when opening the lid as it should have. The sudo nvram AutoBoot=%03 command may well have restored this functionality. All in all, very clear and good instructions - thanks.

just bought a 2016 MBP13, planning to purchase the 2TB upgrade and install it. I use Mojave OS - because it runs Adobe CS6. Thanks for this video.

What if the original ssd is dead will I have issues installing the new drive? I see that you had entered a command line to unmount the drive. I have the A1708 MacBook Pro and it is giving off the "?" folder. When I get into disk utility in recovery mode it does not show the internal drive.

Is it only the 13" MacBook Pro from 2016 and 2017 you can change the SSD, not the 15"? Can any SSD be installed or only those from OWC?

Hello,
I just bought this new ssd and it doesn't seem to be working properly.
Once I installed it on my computer and start it again, I'm able to connect to my wifi, the download starts and quickly stops and doesn't go further. Has it ever happened before ?
Thanks

i followed these instructions exactly, but my computer doesn't see the SSD. i tried using inline recovery and also tried making a monterey recovery drive. the system just doesn't see it. it's not show when trying to install the OS and not visible to the diskutil command. the laptop detects my original apple 256GB SSD just fine, but doesn't see this thing at all. is my drive a dud?
i have a 13", 2017 MBP, non-touch bar.

Hi, I installed the 1Tb version of this SSD, but I have a huge battery drain, compared with the original 256 gb drive. Consumption has increased by more than 20% when asleep (previously I had less than 1% in 8h, now 20%), and from more than 9 hours of work time, it has gone down for less than 3 hours on battery.
Do I need to install some kext's or do anything, because it is not possible to work while traveling in these conditions. Thanks

Is it possible to use Boot Camp Assistant with this drive installed? The Windows installation fails every time I try.
