Vegas baby! Tesla will launch in Vegas. They already have the operation from their tunnels, weather is super easy for Robotaxi, lots of tourists will experience Robotaxi first hand and since there are already several companies testing there and Nevada being super friendly to Tesla (because of factory, Vegas tunnels etc), getting regulatory approval is a given. 🥳🥳🥳

As an Uber driver Model 3 std range owner who's a spreadsheet nerd and drives 80, 000 miles a year, your numbers are GREAT. High/conservative, but close enough. And you mentioned not all miles are paid miles! Good.

I'd love someone to compare Uber driver based model to Tesla no driver based model. Uber needs to keep drivers active to keep them on the app. That means they have to sacrifice the wait time of the rider. It's not just the cost. The riders can wait as long as 20 minutes for a ride. Tesla could prioritize low wait times because a driverless car won't care if its sitting there waiting for a rider for 15 minutes. As a driver, that is painful and all I do during that 15 minute wait is think of what else I could be doing.... Maybe I'll just log off. Riders will often choose the quickest pickup time over cost.

Good Information boys!

Did u think the wheel and pedald could just be left in the car uf u put it into the network. I could imagine that some idiots would oversteer the car. Some thoughts about that? Thanks

SAFETY FIRST?
Since FSD will be the biggest jump in safety since the invention of the car..
Maybe FSD pricing will need to be $0 up front. But included in the cost / mile of every drive and robotaxi fare.
??
Love your work BTW.

In those 12 states where Tesla is approved to sell insurance, there are 25+ of the largest Metro areas. Makes sense to begin there. Austin Texas seems likely to be first. Just a wild guess.

Nice, friday night, cold beer and a lovely rebellionaire video to watch.

you and others missed one big part:
if an uber/taxi comes to you, it costs about 4€ in germany to show up. At 4€ starts the trip.
If you make 10 trips a day with robotaxis on 350 days, thats a lot of money you dont count.

Do you think Tesla may roll out autonomous ride hail first in states where they are approved to sell insurance? (AZ CA CO IL MD MN NV OH OR TX UT VA) Tesla could assume full liability for miles of driverless customer cars. Charge owners a different rate for miles when the vehicle is not in the fleet. Take both portions out of owners' revenue. Pay them net

My friend is an Uber driver. He needs to clean the car inside out nearly everyday before doing Uber work.

For the initial supervised robotaxi, What if Tesla lets people pay for their $100/month FSD by offering rides (only if driver uses FSD). Pretty sure a lot of people would do it and would save Tesla money and introduce FSD to more people

Tesla can use their lease return vehicles for the fleet - most of the Model 3 are likely under $20k cost for Tesla, and even without building new vehicles they can get to 100, 000 vehicles very quickly

I watched and enjoyed the video, but TBH, I try hard to not think too much about robotaxi because it is so uncertain when rhey will reach the point where I would sit in the back and fully trust the car to not kill me. v12.5 is amazing, but still a ways to go. And once they do get ther the numbers will be so wacky I will no longer have to follow so closely as I will be set for life.

The big disconnect I have is that if these unit economics are right and Tesla can see this, why wouldn't Tesla be starting 2-3 new factories for low cost robotaxi? Shouldn't it stand to reason Giga Mexico, maybe another factory in USA should be on right now?

Great stuff. For the customer owned car I suggest you normalize you calculations to per mile and it become easier to assess. So convert all into per mile cost, which is likely what Tesla will do anyhow, by creating bundled packages (tesla revenue share, FSD, insurance).

now a days it's so boring to watch FSD videos b/c they're so good-just nearly perfect.

FYI. After the first 70, 000 miles driving Uber, I only made $0.81 per actual mile driven. That's also paying me out of that 81 cents. So you're over stating what a driverless car will make per mile. That being said, it would be more efficient and driving less empty miles.

I have seen a number of people work through the numbers and it really didn't make much sense less than $3/mile. Plus, how many people do you think would let a computer drive away their beautiful Tesla that they probably still owe quite a bit of money on still? I just think that just because they can does not translate to "they will"...
