San Francisco
July 6th, 2013

A Boeing triple seven carrying over 300 people begins sinking towards the water, on its final approach to San Francisco. The passengers are oblivious to the danger they are in, but the pilots are confused about why their aircraft isn’t responding. Horrified onlookers watch as the massive plane desperately tries to climb. The captain slams the throttle levers fully forwards, but has he done this soon enough to save the plane?

This is the story of Asiana Airlines flight 214.

These pilots managed to crash a perfectly functional aircraft short of the runway during the day, in perfect weather and with no wind issues. Absolutely unforgivable airmanship.

this is tragic but also embarrassing that with 4 pilots in the cockpit, they messed up in perfect landing conditions

Its just unexplainable how the crew didnt choose to do a go around here. Especially at 500 feet, but also before this point.

"the crew were high and fast, the last place you'd want to be on any approach!", i'd say low and slow is the last place

I'm blown away by the quality of this video. I'm not yet finished watching but I felt like I had to say this. And those night shots of the 777 reminded me of another recent video...

I remember this crash. I flew into SanFran the day before with Delta. As we were landing, we suddenly went back up into the air. It freaked me out! I can't remember who he was anymore but the guy next to me had experience with planes or something... I guess he noticed I was confused and he actually said to me that the runway was doing some construction/repairs and he just explained a bunch of stuff about how planes land and why it might have taken back up suddenly and why were were fine. The next day, I woke up and saw the crash on Korean news. I just kept thinking about the things the conversation with the guy on the plane.

Crazy how 4 decently experienced pilot could ignore so many errors that a student pilot would notice

The cabin crew did an OUTSTANDING job that day. They were the real heroes.

Pilots dont disturb passangers, passangers are typically excited to see pilots, theres no reason to keep the relief crew cramped in the cockpit.

Stumbled upon your channel a few days ago pretty much by accident. I lived in Ireland for half a year when I was 15 and I still miss it 5 years later, so hearing your accent really caught me and sent me down memory lane. I think I‘ve watched about 10 of you videos now and I‘m staying for the amazing storytelling, analysis and breakdown!

I had to pause the video to catch the subtle camera shake at 14:06. Man, your editing skills are getting better with every video!

I've watched many videos about this incident. YOUR video has provided SO MUCH more information than I've ever seen about this. Thank you.

It's really surprising that there were "only" 3 fatalities given what this plane went through once it was close to the ground (one of them being from the SFFD accident). The video of the crash from an airport building where you can see the aircraft flipping around showed how violent the crash was, and even with all this tumbling only one person inside died.

I know there's a lot going in the cockpit during a descent, and they were probably fatigued, but I find it baffling that someone could move the power back to idle and then a few minutes later think "why is the power not increasing" but not make any attempt to increase the power.
