In 2011, Tommy Emmanuel asked Reddit to suggest songs for him to arrange on guitar. The response was huge and very friendly! So here is the third arrangement - "Purple Haze" by Jimi Hendrix, played on a custom Larrivee guitar which was given to Tommy as a gift by Jean Larrivee himself. These were made for fun, as a gesture of appreciation to all music lovers out there!

Do not be discouraged by Mr. Emmanuel and quit playing guitar, but let this be an influence and inspiration to your guitar journey.

After I watched this, I looked at my acoustic like a man who cannot satisfy his wife.

There are great guitar players who’s name we all know; There are amazing technical guitar players; There are a small handful of next level guitar players and then there’s Tommy Emanuel... No one plays with more heart and soul than he!

"I went out of tune, haha"
He laughs at the laws of physics' feeble attempt to disrupt a flawless backyard performance...

There are a lot of great guitarists out there, and even though some are at the same technical level, I don't think I've seen any with this combination of chops, rhythm, showmanship and pure, unbridled guitar joy. I've never seen this guy just going through the motions.

Casually tunes his guitar mid-riff. The guy's a legend.

He has this rare ability to play a lot of notes without ever over playing. He even holds back. He could quit easily do lots of fast scale runs but his always working with the melody and rhythm!

When i lived in Nashville, I was a pretty big metal head. never really had an acoustic guitar. The man I lived with/worked with had an acoustic signed by Tommy. He's a good ole' bub, likes having his drink after a week of hard work and just enjoying the nice things in life, plays himself a little guitar from time to time when he gets the chance. I asked him who Tommy Emmanuel was, and his response was, "Ah, hell. You ain't never heard of ole' Tommy?"

He showed me a video of this man playing guitar, and I literally changed genres and everything. Now, I just own a Taylor, and anytime I listen to metal music, it's nostalgic and comical. Mr. Emmanuel, you're a one-of-a-kind legend. Your music has inspired my way of looking at a guitar more so than almost any other musician.

The way he uses the pick to hit the bass notes and his fingers to the rest. Incredible. Absolute mastery

There's a quality to Tommy that reminds me of Stevie Ray Vaughan. These guys don't just play music, they channel it. That's why they make the nearly impossible appear easy. I was befuddled when I once heard him say he doesn't know how to read or write music. This guy's amazing!

Tommy I meet you once in Tasmania at Kingston beach it was the sand sculpture competition you performed on stage at it and then stayed back to sight auto graphs I was that small little kid that waited till the end when everyone went home and I presented my hard earned guitar that I always wanted I only brought It four days before from mccanns music world in Hobart I presented it to you and asked if you could sign it, your reply was yes and you signed my maton I was only 17 y/o you inspired me then and your still doing it now an I’m 42 now thank you for your words of wisdom and warmth on that day I haven’t looked back and I’m still playing unfortunately it was stolen never to be seen again but may be one day I’ll get the chance to get the new one signed on day keep the music alive mate and thank you god bless

When he started playing, I looked, and said 'wait, that's not how you play...', and then it sounded great. It's a totally new arrangement that I haven't heard anyone use before - of the millions of covers and tutorials on this song. It really captures the melody and harmony that were not in the original lead.

You can be cool but you'll never be as cool as Tommy Emmanuel tuning his A string in the middle of the Purple Haze for acoustic arrangement (2:50)
