Why is nobody talking about the set design, the costumes and the colours? 🎭

*Context for Song:*

Alfredo (the male singer) has had a crush from afar on Violetta (the female singer).

Alfredo, along with a whole bunch of guests get invited to Violetta's.

After being persuaded by his friend, Alfredo shares his love for Violetta in poetic words, which makes Violetta's lover angry.

Her lover gets asked to make a toast, but refuses, so the offer goes to Alfredo.

This song is Alfredo's toast, in it however he shares love verses to Violetta.
Violetta is a courtesan so she spends the song half-reciprocating the love, half-mocking Alfredo, because she believes a Courtesan can't truly fall in love.

Violetta however has undiagnosed Terbucolosis, and at the end of the song, she passes out, and the song ends.

She then leaves into another room to get better, when Alfredo enters and the two sing a duet.

Violetta tells him to leave, but after a second thought, she gives Alfredo a rose and tells him to return when the Rose is withered to show if he truly loves her. He obeys and leaves, along with the rest of the guests.

Whilst alone, she sings an aria, doubting herself... could Alfredo truly be the one? She overhears Alfredo, love-stricken, singing outside, and her crush on him develops.

idk what people are talking about the "penthouse." I've been listening to this song for about a year, so I'm glad people are finally giving it the attention it needs

Diana Damrau is my favorite Soprano right now and of the last decade. Flawless. Her performance as queen of the night in the magic flute for the London opera is still one of my favorite performances of all time. Live on Queen, live on.

just stopping by to say that, while the idea behind this translation choice is correct, the original doesn't say "nothing in the world matters except pleasure" but "everything in the world that isn't pleasure is madness" which i like a whole lot better

Diana Damrau is, in my humble opinion, one of the best living sopranos, maybe one of the very best living opera singers. She and our missed Montserrat Caballé are the best of their kind in the classical music arena.
