I don't know! They do make re- thread kits! You "could" be making new metal shavings by using a tap. I don't know! I need to see this in an open through test. And re check the threads, they could also be looser now as a result. But I don't know.
Re thread is an older term for thread chaser. I'm not sure if a tap is smart when they make the thread cleaners separately

I would say you're definitely making a small percentage of metal no matter what. I'd wonder if you could just shoot an air compressor in there and have it blow back. %
