this reminds me of roblox and FN creative monetization. I wont lie, if lets just say you get paid for making a game, and you don't have to have a problem on monetization, it makes you focus on gameplay, either be bad and make tycoon games like kids, or be good and actually make a game that engage people. Its free to play so its easy access to people, Idk about this monetization system but I do hope one day I become a part of it and make a game that I dream of where it gets talked despite not being the usual buy or play it on steam or other stores, just open one of those games and find mine and poof

Yep been a game dev for well over a decade starting by modding garrysmod and other games back in the day. It is going to completely, completely take over. Think the access of roblox with the stars as the limit using Source2.

I think that it needs to drop all the gmod branding to work. Its not trying to be gmod so why call it the spiritual successor of gmod? They didnt add anything that made gmod great to s&box. Me and my firends tried it and because my friends were expecting something that was even a little bit similar to gmod they were all disappointed. If they went to it without thinking about gmod, they might have been intrested

Looks like roblox... in a bad way. I also think the ip recognition of valve assets is what grew garrys mod and i dont think monetization ever makes a good "gamemode platform" as it incentivizes devs to create monopoly groups and displaces smaller solo devs.
The tool doesnt have the same charm as garrys mod and this just feels like a game engine. Its impressive in what it can do but its potential is COMPLETELY reliant on what its community creates out of the gate. Source 2 is powerful and its possible for someone to make the next HLA, titanfall, or COD in this engine but its marketing is weak, it has no identity like Gmod had with valve assets, and theres little reason to make a game on this if its going to look and perform exactly like unity especially if the platform doesnt have users. Roblox had the blocky aesthetic to carry it, gmod had the uncanny feeling and valve assets, what does this have?

Stop simping. People stopped developing for gmod and s&bkx because garry doesn't give out proper mod support, nultiple times he's destroyed communities and mods. You can't even develop for S&box without having a future patch kill it

Garry just wants to build his own Unity and stop paying Unity for their crappy engine. He doesn't care about the users, he's already trying to sell character mods in a game that hasn't been released... this is in a game that's all about mods and you can change whatever you want.

garry, you're the intellectually laziest guy i've seen. Inspiring yourself from unity is such a disgrace. But what else did I expect ? From someone wanting to dissociate themself from gmod.
We've seen it with fucking back 4 blood, they played on that same marketting strat and guess what. L4D2 is by far the best.
Yeah like eridium said, I can understand in terms of ip ? Yeah kinda. But what eridium quoted from garry is what I've been telling and felt has a hunch.
So yeah, like B4B a good chance it's gonna fail, plus inspiring yourself from unity ? come on. We don't want a roblox clone.
