A great song with quite a history. Originally a Yiddish song "Bei Mir Bistu Shein" (to me you're beautiful). The name changed to "Bay Mir Bistu Sheyn" when used in a musical in 1932. The name changed again to the German flavor with the Andrews Sisters 1937 hit and now known as "Bei mir bist du schön" as in the video title. It's really a Yiddish folk song that works very well in a jazz environment.

Suggestion to music students oriented to this sort of music: THIS is the sort of thing to spend time listening to. This is how it's done. This great jazz standard actually started as a Yiddish folk music piece. But, then again, almost all music has roots in folk music. Who knew?
