got 27/8 just convert mixed fraction to (9/2) / (4/3) - reverse to (3/4) - multiply thanks for the fun

4½ = 9/2, 1 = 3/3, reciprocal of 3/4 is 4/3

(4½) / (1 + ⅓ ) = (9/2) / (3/3 + 1/3) = 9/2 / (4/3) [dividing a fraction is the same as multiplying by its reciprocal ] (9/2 ) * (3/4) = 27/8 = 3⅜

The answer should be written in mixed number form: 3 3/8

Again a/b / c/d = a/b x d/c so 9/2 / 4/3 = 9/2 x 3/4 = 27/8

I just reduced them to a common denominator. 9/2 / 4/3 = 27/6 / 8/6 Multiplied by 1 = 6/6 x 27/6 / 8/6 giving 27/8.

I looked at the thumbnail, and within a couple of seconds, I said a touch over 3 and 1/3. How do I know the answers without doing the work?

Numerator = 9/2 = 27/6

Denominator = 4/3 = 8/6

x/6 divided by y/6 is just x divided by y, so we have the final answer:

27/8

which you can write as 3⅜ if you're into that sort of thing.
