Always remember the first line of safety depends on your actions... so please use common sense.

I always ask for the driver's name. Half the time they get a confused look on their face and don't know what I'm talking about... then I'll say "Or you can give me your name, whichever is more convenient". Most drivers don't verify shit. I know this because passengers tell me and it's obvious they're used to just getting into cars without saying one word to the driver or even acknowledging the driver whatsoever. Once they try to open my car door and realize its locked, I gesture to them and verify before they enter my car. They say things like "Oh that's smart to do that". Actually every driver should already being doing that. These other drivers not verifying information makes it harder on those that do the job right.

I accepted a 2 minute ride from 6 minutes away as I was heading to the beach anyway. As I am 200ft away the app says pickup Mary on the left. 3 large women on the right wave frantically to me. I crack the window and say "Uber for... ?" As I almost always do. One of them practically tells in an angry voice "What is YOUR name!" I told her and her Large Marge friends "That's not how it works. You confirm your name and I then tell you mine" they all started saying "What's your NAME" loudly like they were really pissed. I said "Sorry. Uber policy is clear.. You need to let me know your name. If not you can cancel" And I drove off and minutes later I cancelled with reason "Other". My next request was a 40 minute ride and I LAUGHED all night long! Avoiding a 1 Star and getting a nice paying trip right after? PRICELESS! 😉

In my area, so many passengers say this is the first time they've had a driver ask for driver name. Thanks for making this video bc far too many drivers aren't doing this process correctly. Sad that they don't value their own personal safety enough to do this but it's even moreso a thumb in the eye to all the drivers that we see and hear about having all kinds of crazy encounters on the road. Many of these problems can be avoided by simply doing the name exchange process the correct way. *Dustin is driving* is a top channel for this safety info without a doubt...

The way the stock market is going for UBER & LYFT there will be NO more ride share companies

I agree with what you're saying but if its raining, they'll be trying to jump into your car as quickly as possible and if you make them verify, most likely they'll give you a bad rating. I've had people give me a low rating for "pickup experience" when all I did was verify their identity before allowing them in my car aka following proper pickup procedure. Its totally unfair.

That's why I eventually set up my profile picture. Just like the ride, I want everything to be as easy and simple as possible.

Thanks for the reminder. I do forget sometimes to make sure they have the right driver.

As always, great advice from Dustin!

I drive a 2017 Honda Fit hatchback!

I responded to a trip two weeks ago to pick up a passenger (a girl) on an UberX ride. I pull up to the apartment complex and I see the girl with two big lawn waste bags of clothes, two car seats, two hampers full of stuff, microwave/convection over, ironing board, etc. I think WTF?

But I also noticed a guy hiding behind a dumpster area with 7 lawn bags bags of clothes, two nightstands, two lamps, a stereo system, and a bunch of other furnishings.

I rolled down my window a little bit, heeding Dustin’s advice I kept my doors locked, and asked the girl, “What’s up?” She asked if I were her UBER driver, I said yes, but asked, “ What’s with all the stuff on the curb and the guy behind the dumpster area with all the other furnishings?”

She informed me they were evicted from their apartment the night before and needed to move that stuff, however; it may take many consecutive trips in order to move it to their new digs. She also informed me they had a king size mattress, box spring, and frame and some other stuff that had to be moved too. However, they wanted to tie the box spring and mattresses to my hood on the last trip.

I told her she needed a Uhaul or Two Men and a Truck, not an UBER. She said, “ Yo punk ass bet not charge me, know wha I’m sayin?”

I drove off, then looked back and she was giving me the Stone Cold Steve Austin double middle fingers and her mouth looked like she just drank a pint of warm piss.

I got my 5 bucks, moved on, and went off line for 10 minutes so I didn’t get her again. You can’t make this shit up!

Uber is offering disability insurance now. Is this something new? Has this been offered in other markets?

Hey Dustin thnks for bringing up this s.o.p, but even though there’s some idiots out there, driving is not for everybody if so everyone can be a pilot, l’ve heard passengers telling me oh you are so strict my last uber didn’t do this or that, and they got pissed, no body understands how safety is important till someone mess up, but it’s too late, late .

Plus I think you can pull up and say who’s your driver are you waiting for Uber or lyft .or you can say I give you my name .And who order Uber and ask them to tell you their name.

I want you to make a video for when one is going to pick up a passenger who is drunk and does not know where he is standing

I have to go against the grain on this one. In most of my pickups it's easy to tell who the rider is. It's the one standing near the pickup location with a phone in their hands looking around for their Uber. I do however usually verify the destination once they get in. Not as sure as your method, but it cuts back on any drama.

Hi Stephen,

Last week, drivers from across California came together for a three-day caravan from LA to Sacramento to deliver their message: drivers want the wages, rights and benefits they deserve.

In San Francisco and Sacramento, drivers took massive action: blocking the street in front of Uber HQ and the capitol with their cars, speaking truth to power, and demanding dignity for drivers.

As a result of powerful driver organizing, Uber and Lyft (along with DoorDash) have stepped up their campaign against drivers’ rights and have threatened to spend a combined $90 million to defeat AB5 at the ballot box. To be clear, the companies are willing to sink millions of dollars into a ballot initiative because they don’t want to pay drivers a living wage.

We are in a historic moment for driver organizing and workers’ rights at large. As Edan, a driver leader with GWR shared - “We are here to show we have been organizing for a long time and we are not going to go away. We will keep fighting until we get what we deserve.”

Assembly Bill 5 could be voted on by the Senate as early as next week. Now is the time for drivers to make their final push and ask legislators to stand with workers.

Contact your senator today and ask them to pass AB5 and give drivers a pathway to a union.

Contact your senator

Assembly Bill 5 is a bill that would expand rights and protections for drivers in California. This proposed law, Assembly Bill 5, would stop Uber and Lyft from excluding rideshare drivers from basic worker protections, like a living wage and benefits like health insurance, disability, overtime and workers comp.

In solidarity,

Shona and Lauren

I agree, I do the same thing with deliveries too when the customer is waiting outside and says "hey that's me". What's the password? Nope, No Soup For You!
