Fly Tying the Original Walt's Worm - Simple Flies Series

preview_player
Показать описание
Probably the simplest fly pattern in Morgan Lyle's "Simple Flies," Walt's Worm was created in 1984 by Walt Young of Pennsylvania. This is not a bead head version, or Walt's Sexy Worm... this pattern's beauty is in it's simplicity.

Hook: #8-18 nymph
Thread: Tan
Weight: 0.020-0.025"
Body: Hare's mask and Antron mix
Anything else: nope

Savage Flies is a project with the mission of encouraging and teaching fly tying to as many people as possible. The channel is named after one of my western Maryland homewaters, the Savage River. I've been uploading at least three new videos a week (usually Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday).

Thanks for stopping by. Please let me know in the comments if you have any tying tips you would like to share or if you have any patterns you would like to see tied here.

Also, I wanted to let you know. I love your style. Between the editing, jumps of camera zoom with edit, as well as the history of the fly each time I greatly appreciate the effort you put into this. It is not just a tie only, which makes you unique. Love it! #worm

Finally a fly for my skills! I’ve been wanting to try a damselfly for a while and recently gave it a shot. I surprised myself that it turned out okay, not sure if I will ever fish it but it was fun. The flies I have saved from your channel I think will definitely work much better. Thank again for the new one. #worm.

Nice to see simple files have a place in every fly fisherman’s arsenal and are productive to fish. #worm

I read somewhere that 90% of everything a trout eats is brown and about a half inch long, which means this should work. I would think a streamer of some sort for the skunk pelt, but I have no idea lol

Man that’s simple enough. I think I can handle that one. Kind of neat looking though. Thank you for the video Matt.

I tied up a bunch of these with a very small tuft of white yarn near the head last summer to match a caterpillar hatch. Worked great for a few days.

Thanks for the great video, I like my flies as minimal as possible! I'd never heard of the Simple Flies book but will definitely check it out. Wishing you tight lines from Scotland 👍🎣

Thanks for reminding me of this fly, Matt. Now I'll give another chance. I believe it's a very popular pattern here in central PA with direct connections to the waters that I fish.
