'Do Atheists Have Faith?' by Mark Spence

The faith of an atheist is hard to shake. Did you know that atheists live by faith? Not faith in God, obviously, but they do live by faith. Whether it’s their belief that consciousness and existence cease after death, or their belief that nothing somehow magically created everything, make no mistake: atheists live by faith. Many atheists cling to their faith in science; they claim that science is the only truth, and that everything must be tested in a scientific manner. But the problem is that science is not always reliable. Did you know that scientists once believed that the world was flat and that bleeding was the best way to rid the body of disease? Sometimes science is wrong. The word science simply means knowledge, and guess what? Man’s knowledge isn’t always correct.

When it comes to the knowledge of God, how would a scientist expect to perform a lab test on the One who measures the universe within the span of His hand? How would you measure the Immeasurable, contain the Uncontainable, or somehow fit your Creator into a test tube? It couldn’t happen. God doesn’t submit to our tests; it’s us who must submit to Him.

Our job as Christians isn’t to convince anyone that God exists. Romans 1:20 says that everyone already knows that He does: “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse...”

The atheist with his limited knowledge is quick to preach “there is no evidence for the existence of God.” Because an atheist presupposes that there is no God, no amount of evidence will pull him away from his blind faith in naturalism.

For example, if I were to have a videotape of God coming down from Heaven, they’d say it was a special effect. If I had a thousand eyewitnesses saying they saw Him, they’d say it was mass-hysteria. If I had Old Testament prophecies fulfilled in the NT, they’d say that they were forged, dated incorrectly, or not real prophecies.

So instead of convincing atheists of that which they already know, God’s existence, our job is to simply point out their foolish thinking and to warn them that they are in terrible danger for breaking God’s moral Law and that unless they repent and trust in Jesus, they will perish on Judgment Day.

Interesting how he says at 2:26 that Christians need to "gently point out atheists' foolish thinking and warn them they are in terrible danger of breaking God's moral law. Unless they repent and trust in Jesus they will perish on judgment day!"
Ironically the very next words he says (to Christians) are, "So don't be intimidated." Threats of eternal torture are the essence of intimidation. Any belief system that relies on the threat of violence is morally bankrupt. Love me or burn? Pass.

I have yet to meet an honest religious apologist.
This video didn't change that.

Yes Mark. Science has often been wrong. At least it can admit when it is.

It is one of the swan songs of the believing mind to equate non-belief with belief, and science with faith. Once you begin saying that those Chemistry and Astrology are both faith, or that Physics and Islam are both equally based on evidence, then the cognitive dissonance starts to kick in.

Lol you know someone is losing the argument when they have to deny that any opposition even exists.

Just because we will never figure it all out doesn't mean we should resort to believing there is an all powerful being who lives in the sky.

No one knows yet... That's what science is all about, finding the answers to these types of questions.

"or their belief that nothing somehow magically created everything"

??? who believes that? I've never heard any atheist say that.

You're missing a little bit in your analogy with the trampoline. You forgot the part where the person with the trampoline tells the guy that's falling that he has to love and fear him; that he has to worship him, and that he has to promise not to worship anyone else with a trampoline or he's not going to save him. Now, I have to ask, what would YOU do in that situation? Would you save the guy that's falling without asking for anything in return? Or would you demand his devotion?

You're right that is why we present evidence of evolution and the only argument you have against it is basically "nuh uh"

If Kirk Cameron ever was truly an atheist, then he was the kind of naive, unintelligent atheist who never really thought about or questioned his beliefs.
This of course made him a perfect candidate to become a naive, unintelligent Christian who never really thinks about or questions his beliefs.

Scientists are closed minded? I study science, so if you present me with a decent evidence to debunk my current knowledge of something then I would have to update my knowledge. I'm sure most if not all scientists are like that.

Please give me an example anywhere in the universe that something came out of nothing...It just appeared magically without someone or something responsible for its creation...

No I am observing the fossils for what they are and drawing conclusions from them you know science. The dinosaur to bird transition is very well documented I think I will just stick with it.

Okay. This is stupid. Scientists no longer believe this stuff any more because evidence arises and we change theories accordingly. They'll only get better over time. This is different than faith which is the opposite: no matter what evidence arises deny, deny, deny. Yeah that sounds real enlightening. Makes total sense.

So how else other than fossils do you suppose we should be able to track changes in species millions of years before humans evolved?

Are we questing for truth, or validating a story? If you really talk to us skeptics, you will see its not "challenging a god and what a god can do". Its pointing out how men can and have imagined many gods and convinced others to sincerely believe. Let's say a Christian says a demon interacted with a situation and no demon actually interacted. How do you falsify this claim if you are interested in truth? If you can't falsify this claim you might start to see the problem. A nice story is not an answer. I don't think you are understanding why we are skeptical, and why its not faith to say I believe people made things up.

I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.

So, god created man without knowledge of good and evil, then instructed man not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, but left an evil talking snake there to tempt them to eat from said tree; but since they had no knowledge of good and evil, how were they to know that to do so would be an act of evil? They were told they would die if they ate the fruit, not that to do so was evil.
Also, which specific bible verse says that the serpent was, in fact, Lucifer; or is this just assumed?

The Earth isn't a circle, it's a sphere. In addition, Daniel 4:10-11 states that a sufficiently tall tree could be seen everywhere on Earth. This would only be possible on a flat Earth. The Bible also references the "four corners of the Earth", a statement only true of a flat surface.
