FYI: I asked for permission to do this DIY. I see so many comments from landlords upset regarding rental apartments DIY's. If you are renting please remember that you need permission to make any changes and that if you don't please make sure they are not permanent and that you will return the place the same it was giving to you. The day I move I will be placing back items I removed. Thank you.

I think landlords should appreciate when renters take pride in their living space and do things to make it look nice. As long as it's nothing TOO out there they shouldn't have to remove their hard work, because the new tenants just may love it. I redid our house, from peel and stick flooring all the way to painting and replacing electrical outlets and their covers. When we move this house will look a million times better then it did when we moved it, someone is going to love it and I hope they appreciate the hard work I put into this place.

I am 78 years old and I have used contact paper for a lot of "stuff". Never once did I think of placeing a piece of paper over the groves then placing the contact paper over both. Absolutely wonderful idea. The kitchen turned our very, very nice. Thanks for giving an old lady a very useful new idea.

The grooves on the cabinets are hard to cover with contact paper. That was so smart to cover it with a poster board first!

I gotta say, putting the paper underneath before covering the doors was GENIUS 🧠🙌

So this is by far the BEST actually rental-friendly kitchen makeover I've seen that is truly affordable. So many people make videos saying "rental-friendly" and then they end up painting things and drilling holes in the wall. Thank you so much for this. My husband and I just went to Target and got some marbled contact paper and plan to give ourselves fresh-looking counter tops. :)

This is one of the BEST techniques I have ever seen.

I could have sworn that you painted the cabinets. Amazing DIY on your kitchen. Everything looked perfect.

I did this to my kitchen over 12 years ago in a rental we were in because the kitchen was in bad shape. The landlord was so impressed that he asked us to let it up. I did it in turquoise pattern and it was beautiful. You did amazing ❤

That white contact paper on the cabinets is an amazing idea! I own my home but have been thinking of painting my kitchen cabinets. This way I can try out the color (or close to) and live with it a bit to see if I like it

Looks great. My only problem with this is that my gf is literally going to make me head to Walmart now to grab this stuff and do it.. so... thanks?

This is the best on a budget I’ve ever seen!!! I’m also moving an terrified I’m gonna end up with a crappy kitchen to afford rent so this is so perfect!

I’ve watched a slew of “on budget apartment friendly DIY” videos in preparation for my first apartment move and this was literally the only video that was TRULY budget and renter friendly lol most “budget” friendly videos cost up to 300-400 bucks lol that’s definitely not budget friendly to me. This one is awesome!

My sons and I are starting over. So we just moved. Our counters are stained and just yuck My landlord said I could paint or anything to improve. But as a single mom. Paint is expensive. I know for some it isn’t but it is for me. But this right here I know I can do!!! U did such a amazing job. Thank u for taking the time to share ur project. Can’t wait to do our kitchen. My sons could care less but I want our home to feel like home. Thanks again God Bless

The cabinet trick was BRILLIANT. I am helping my partner remodel an old, broken down camper for as free as possible. This is a great way to make big impact for super cheap!

Contact paper on cabinets instead of painting it, is a fantastic idea!

I totally apprecuate how you showed us everything in your contact paper process! Thank you a bunch!

How does contact paper hold up with water, cleaning and rubbing?

Great to watch! I did something much like this back in the 80's while living in military housing. It looked great and held up great for the 3 years we lived there. So easy to remove when it was time to move. I even put contact paper the bathroom floor and it look great.

This technique is perfect for me because I have been wanting to switch up my kitchen cabinets, but I’m so scared of doing all the work to sand and then paint them, and potentially end up not liking them. This will allow me to “try before I buy.” Love it!

I like this but it would be nice to see a diy removal when you move out. I’m curious if it leaves marks or takes the paint off the walls.
