The Tragic Story of Pocahontas

Honestly, there's so much to this story I should have made a full 10m length video.

I might do at some point if people are interested - there's a lot about her first marriage ending in bloodshed and the eventual Jamestown massacre by the Powhatan indigenous peoples and the absolutely gruesome death of the Jamestown colonist, John Ratcliffe.

Hope you liked this - stay tuned for more.

Honestly, this story could have been made into a 10 minute long video. If you'd like that, let me know.
Otherwise I hope you at least enjoyed this short.

She died because people hurt her. That's why she died young.

They should move her grave back to virginia or something back to her people.
They didnt not respect her or her culture ir her people. The abuse she endured was a disgrace.

I’ve done tons of research on Pocahontas and I’ve read several of the first hand writings about her and many second hand accounts about her life. Pocahontas was a very compassionate, intelligent, and both childlike and mature human being. I’m going to defend her here and say I think she willingly converted to Christianity. Everyone who knew her first hand wrote that her compassion and desire for truth stuck out to them in a unique way. She was the kind of person who very much had a mind of her own, was not easily brainwashed, and was very likely seeking a spiritual path. She was a strong, courageous woman who could not be forced into any boxes on either side. I’m also going to say I think her and her husband had a much deeper, spiritual love for each other than most people realize. Yes the marriage led to a time of peace but that peace was rooted in genuine love, not some sort of dark conspiracy.
A lot of people say Pocahontas’s son was conceived in rape and Pocahontas’s husband wasn’t the real dad and her marriage was just to cover that up, but there’s no evidence of that. Pocahontas married John Rolfe in early April 1614 and her son was born January 30th, 1615. If you do the math you can see she got pregnant after they were married, not before.
It seems like some people are set on painting her as a helpless victim who was just brainwashed instead of admiring the courageous, smart, and compassionate woman that she was.
I do agree though that the Disney movie was inaccurate and Pocahontas did endure some things that she didn’t deserve

Is is wrong to say I like the Disney movie. I know it’s not historically accurate. Which is why I chose to believe the figures in the movie are fairy tale characters with the same name.

I remember Wayne Newton was trying to get Pocahontas body back to the US to be buried.

this shouldn't be a surprise with Disney the Pocahontas myth will alway's be portrayed before The actual Truth whether Disney or any other Film producer.

Still one of the best animated Disney movies of that decade.
Im glad to see more mindful habits among creators but Disney has definitely lost something since then. What theyve gained in accuracy, they lost in fluid storytelling. Back then animators and writers alike just got lost in the story and it was great to go on that journey with them.

Some of the most enjoyable hand drawn Disney movies were the most Mermaid; The Lion King; Hercules; and c'mon Tarzan??(they spun gold out of prickly, radioactive yarn on that one).
Anyway, rest in power Princess Amonute. 🙏
