I just ordered Horizons level 4 along with the manipulative kit today for my 5th grade daughter. I'm excited to give it a try after seeing this! She has so many issues with math and I'm almost 100% sure she had dyscalculia. I'm hoping taking her down 1 grade level helps to fill in gaps and build her confidence. Thank you for the review!

That's great news that your math curriculum helped so much ...

I wish spelling came easier to our family ;)

I did want to recommend a Typing Teaching program ... I used it when I learned and bought the newer version at the time for my kids ... It is fun and has great results when used consistently ... Program is called Mavis Beacon

Thank you for your review. We are new to homeschooling and I have yet to find a mth curriculum. My son is in 5th grade and also has challenges with math.

Could you use the sonlight language arts 4-5 without the spelling and handwriting aspects?

This will be my first year trying homeschool. My daughter will be in 4th and has experienced so many negative things in public school. I owe it to her to try homeschool. I plan to order all of the books you just discussed, but what did you use for science and social studies? Sorry if I missed that!

Thanks for the review! I have been using Horizons math for a few years now but have run into a little bit of a problem this year with my older 2 kids in 3rd grade. The teacher's guide doesn't tell you how to explain things and I'm really struggling with that. There's some things they've done this year that I don't remember how to do at all and other things I just simply don't know how to explain to them. How is the teacher's guide for 4th grade math? Does it tell you how to explain things to the kids or just do an overview like in the other books?

Did you find any text errors in Horizons math 4 and 5? (assuming you continued with Horizons) -thanks!

Thanks for your review --this is superduper helpful!
I have been doing a lot of research on horizons math for my daughter who will be in fifth grade. She struggles with math as well but I'm looking for something that doesn't drill the same topic over and over especially if she isn't getting it. I'm hoping that horizons can help build her confidence in math by putting previously learned topics in the same lesson as a newer/more challenging concept.
I hope that makes sense LOL.

I know the answers are in the teachers book but did you use the teachers manual to teach/help her learn the concepts?
