Wonderful video!!! I love Memoria Press Christian studies too. I think if he likes telling stories and you want a gentle introduction to writing you would enjoy Writing with Ease! I am using Level 2 with my 9 year old and we both love how gentle it is and how it holds you by the hand step by step. Next year I am using Memoria Press' Introduction to Composition which focuses heavily on Reading Stories and making Outlines. After that I hope to start the Progymnasmata with Classical Composition by Memoria Press.
We use Logic of English and absolutely love it. We have used it from the begining and I am so glad because I also think my son has Dislexia and ADHD. We are in Essentials A now. I highly recommend it.

I love your counselors' perspective on picking curriculum! Evan Moor writing has worked wonders for my rising writer. We switch with Daily Writing Traits and Real World Writing and I do use it over a two year time period as well. We are trying Logic of English and it is very similar to All About Learning Products. Its is also a writing portion as well that is similar to IEW Structure and Style. Looking forward to hearing about the testing process.

So interesting how you do year round homeschooling, I think that is definitely better for kids so information sticks!

Your videos are soooo helpful. My kiddo was diagnosed with a neuropsych in McKinney last time we were in the US. Your descriptions and choices are so similar to my experience with my kiddo.

I absolutely loved BJU English 3 for my newly 9 year old dyslexic son. We skipped some of the writing projects, which are every other chapter. The writing projects are writing a rhyming poem, a paragraph, an opinion essay, a book review, a research paper, a friendly letter, etc. But I felt much like you, that writing too soon is not good for struggling readers. So we picked the ones we felt we could do comfortably and left the rest. (My son is lining up with where your son is at, almost exactly, in AAR and AAS.) Check out BJU English for your son. They introduce each concept a chapter at a time, starting with subject and predicates, the 4 types of sentences, and punctuation of each. So nouns is a whole chapter, and every thing with nouns like common or proper nouns, capitalizing proper nouns, identifying nouns in a sentence, etc. Funny enough, I didn’t learn that BJU English is great for dyslexic students until we were almost finished with level 3, but I whole heartedly agree that it is! I have purchased BJU English 4 and it is very similar, just expanding more on the level 3 concepts.
I have no knowledge of Logic of English. But if you do try it, I’d really like to see a review, please.
As far as having them create stories orally, that is exactly what Brave Writer’s Jot it Down is all about. We have done the same with our son, letting him dictate and me write out his creations. They are some of the best stories, and I’m so glad we have been able to capture them on paper. There is no way he could have written half of those stories, if he had to do the writing himself. This year, I purchased Building Writers C and D by Handwriting without Tears. We are also continuing with the Brave Writer, using the Partnership Writing projects. I’m hoping to gently ease our son into some writing this year.

My son liked the hardy boys clues books, mercy watson, young cam Jensen, tales from maple ridge, imagination station, and the greetings from somewhere series. Maybe your son would like some of those as well.

I’m interested in your review of getting your child officially tested and what you think the pro and cons of that would be. I know my son is dyslexic but he hasn’t been officially tested. We are on level 2 of all About Reading and he’s in 4th grade now. We only started level 1 last year.

Looks like so many great resources! I’m interested in the memoria press christian studies and the golden children’s bible that you use with it. Would you be able to share more on these resources? Thanks!
