Passive smoking is also known as second hand smoking, means you don’t smoke, but you get the bad effects of smoking, because somebody near to you is smoking, or somebody dear to you is smoking in very closeby range. Now because the tobacco smoke when it is released into the air has a lot of particles , it doesn’t tend to rise and disappear, it tends to hang in mid air, which means our breathing air will have lot of particles. Children especially when exposed to passive smoking are more prone for allergies, they are more prone for asthma and breathing disorders. They are more prone to get adenoiditis and recurrent upper respiratory tract infections and sometimes if it is too much, I can affect their growth. People who live with smokers and who have never smoked actually have 30 – 40 5 of more chance of developing lung cancer. People who live with smokers and have never smoked have more chance of getting smoke because smoke particles make your blood thicker. This leads to clotting in the brain and predispose to strokes, also to cardiac disease. Now what can you do to prevent your near and dear ones from getting the effect of second hand smoke or passive smoking. You should avoid smoking in the same room, indoors especially at home where you have children. You should avoid smoking in cars which carry children less than 18 years. You should avoid smoking 3 – 4 metres away from the entrance to the school or you must be going to drop your kid. Just refrain from smoking in public areas.
