Only dude in the world that doesn't piss me off or make me think hes deluded when he says such a big thing lol. Royce is beyond legendary. Bjj came around the world like a storm because of Gracie Jiujitsu.

"I'm not part of the history, I am the history" is one savage quote. Up there with "I am the one who knocks."
Royce is the OG of all OGs.

After one of his fights when he was interviewed, he said he didn't do it fot the money, he did it for the honor and the family. I became a fan when i heard him say that. Very honorable man! Not boasting just telling the truth.

I had been in martial arts since 2nd grade and was a freshman in highschool when the 1st UFC aired. My wrestling coaches ordered it and had us over to watch it. I still remember it like it was yesterday. I was baffled by Royce and BJJ. I had never seen anything like that before. It was amazing as a wrestler and a martial artist to see it all come together to make an ultimate fighter that was able to devastate someone larger, perhaps more athletic and stronger like Dan The Beast Severn. Who is from Coldwater, Mi right next to where I grew up. Dan was a legend in our area amongst the wrestling community. To see Joyce tap him out. I was like ahh hell naahh.. I have to learn about this!! Been a huge fan ever since. I do miss the old days though. Chuck Liddel, Matt Hughes, BJ Penn, George St Pierre, etc. Especially when UFC absorbed Pride and we got to see the best of the best like Rampage, Vanderle, etc.. those old school fights with Don Frye, Mark Coleman. It's been incredible watching the sport and the athletes evolve and to feel like you have been a part of it from the beginning. I still have a hard time if Rogan isn't announcing. He's been such a a permanent fixture and such a great teacher for the audience from the way he teaches you about technical aspects to learning about the athletes and even their camps and coaches. I often wonder how successful the sport would have been without Rogan. Because I remember having Jim Brown as an announcer and as bad ass of an athlete as he was, he didn't know shit about MMA. Rogan was destined for this part. And we are all blessed to have him.

Gracies only invited strikers at the beginning . Then pulled out when the competition became too much. But they accomplished their goal. Even though it's not the most ideal Martial Art they made a name.
