This video shows how both the 4-acceleration and 4-force vectors are defined in terms of what an observer in an inertial frame observes. It also looks at the effect of a 4-force on the rest mass of an object.

Hi Robert, excellent video! I just have one question, why is the acceleration (4vector) dotted with velocity (4vector) =0? Thanks.

If the acelleration of the particle is constant wouldn't the four acelleration become infinite over a infinite period of time? I thought the acelleration would approach 0. Or is that coordinate acelleration? Thanks

Hello Robert! I don't understand why we can use "Newtonian Mechanics" for determining the change in energy in the derivation of the four force. I thought only the rest frame experiences Newtonian Mechanics, not the moving observer S?

You are defining the 4-acceleration taking the derivative of 4-velocity wrt. proper time. In some sources, they define it by taking the derivative of 4-velocity wrt. ds, spacetime interval. Which is correct?
