I think one has to ask why they have the gold.. I have never sold my gold for cash. I will only swap my gold for other hard assets. When the SGR was at 93-1, I swapped a couple oz's of gold into much silver. When the PtGR went 2.13 to 1, I swapped into some Pt. However, someday this will all be swapped back into gold, or a home, or another hard asset, or something requiring emergency services.... not cash or other paper

When I started to buy gold, there was not a big diff between 1 ounce coins and bars, so I bought coins. I was always told that AGE were the way to go but shied away because I got taxed on 92% gold, so I bought maples (24k). When I traveled to Asia, I saw that maples were readily available and sought after because of their 24k. This encouraged me to be on maples until the premiums got silly, so I went to brits, then bars.
Now, I am all about the fractional because gold is too pricey and fraction has more potential daily utility than 1 oz gold. So now with the prices as they are, I am dollar cost averaging with 20 francs, sovereigns (i found a tax free angle on 90-92% gold), and 1/4 oz maples or brits.

Multiple options are always better. Picking things to buy for consistency and liquidity is great but the occasional different foreign piece adds a bit of spice to things. That's especially true of Perth Mint coins. They have so many beautiful options!

I'm in Australia. It depends if you sell on the secondary market. I was offered spot + 40% on a 2018 Myths and Legends 1oz gold coin.

Love that copy of Plato’s Republic, I just reread it, do you know what publisher makes that edition? I’d love to own a bound copy for my library rather than my crappy paperback

When the worst economic disaster comes and the world goes back to using gold or silver as currencies, will where they come from matter or will they just be treated equally?
