Показать описание
Simulation of IS-7 tank projectile hitting the frontal armor of Strv 103A tank

130mm BR-482 (33.3kg APCBC projectile) at 850 m/s

vs

Strv 103A hull front armor (40mm, at 78 degrees)

IS-7 130mm S-70 gun muzzle velocity - 900 m/s. 850 m/s refers to a distance of approximately 0.8 km.

A fall angle of 0.3 degree is included.

That survived a lot better than I thought it would

Feels illegal that such a thin plate can stop such a powerful round

Its a very interesting simulation, really great job. Like many people probably i expected it to penetrate. But i guess this angle is about as favourable to the strv 103 as it gets. Also 0.8km is pretty close but itd be interesting to see a point blank shot at 0.2km or something like that to compare the difference. Awesome video, i always look forward to these!

i bet a lot of people expected the IS-7 to penetrate the strv lol

Despite it still having inaccuracies, I can confirm with warthunder that the Strv 103 upper plate does this with just about everything

The little bars for stopping mg rounds hitting the optics actually broke the cap off probally saving the armour

I love watching those simulations. They are so interesting and... surprisingly relaxing. Thank you!

Unexpected! Definitely thought it would pen with the sheer mass and velocity vs such a thin plate.

Almost as if the round treats that slope like a ski resort fascinating..

It's so sloped that it can deflect heavy round like a champ

Peak IKEA engineering right there

nice, the engine is probably not damaged

Could you make a similar simulation to show the difference between this armour and armour without the ribs/bars or whatever they are

Looks like even HE would have done more damage...
Something interesting to note: the Soviets seemed to prefer more modern HE over HESH. In WT they do comparable damage despite the latter being optimised for damaging armour...
PS: I'm aware of the fact that HESH profits of rifled cannons very unlike APFSDS or HEAT or any cannon launched missiles

For 40mm that’s very impressive angling

And that's why it's my favorite tank. A bunch of 'what the fuck' in one machine.

IS7 in the background like "Hey thats illegal"

It's an all-or-nothing armour solution. The vehicle really has to engage at the optimum scenario, if the hull pitches down slightly or the gunner has time to avoid that plate it's pretty much all over.
However I have to say it's one of my all-time favourite vehicles.
