If War Thunder's Strv 103 Was Historically Accurate

I didn't think there would be enough info to make a historically accurate video, but I was wrong. The Stridsvagn 103 or Strv 103 was a Swedish main battle tank with an unconventional design. The armament was stationary to reduce the vehicle's height and the complexity of the autoloader system. Aiming was accomplished by turning the entire vehicle and adjusting the suspension. It was a fairly successful tank, though expensive to procure.

It should also be noted that not only were the engines separate, their transmissions were as well. If you shot up one side of the engine-compartment, the other side was still functional and driveable.

Would be neat if some tanks did get illumination rounds for lower tier night battles

If it was an Australian design you could call it Wedgemite

Also, the aiming was smooth AF compared to in-game

"So purchase and repair costs are higher than more conventional tanks."

Accurately describing the Swedish tech tree with that one.

0:05 I'm assuming you meant "one round every 3 seconds", not "3 rounds per second"?

Great video!
Just short, at 0:05 I guess it should be 1 round every 3 seconds? Even though the idea of an 105 with 180 rpm is hilarious.

I feel the 2 engine thing would be cool where if it gets hit you can still move but a lot slower

Major things that need to be improved in the Strv 103 in game:
Two engines rather than one;
Loader can load rounds after breech is either damaged or 'destroyed';
Jerry cans have a chance of defusing HEATFS;
103Cs fence having a chance of destabilizing kinetic rounds.

The Strv 103D would be great to have in war thunder, hope the snail adds it one day

This thing is definitely one of the most unique tanks I've seen, and it might be quite advantageous in Swedens terrain

I think Stefan Karlsson also said that the STRV 103 could raise one side of its suspension so it could shoot in a slope more accurately.

"A crew member must exit the vehicle to reload the external machine guns" Apply this to every tank that has a pintle mounted gun

Aktchually the autoloader could even be pushed down to one round every two seconds but that had a chance of jamming the autoloader. Also the internal armour should be thicker if I'm not mistaken.

Next a what if the Leclerc was historically accurate could be interesting!

I would love to see it in game that the if the engine gets shot and 1 survives the strv can still move somewhat it would add to its survivability and shooting it in the engine/transmission doesn't mean it's effectively taken out, I think it would be a good addition and makes them even more unique like them surviving with only 1 crew member

Gajin should go through your "vehicles that should be added in warthunder" video and just add every one

I kinda wish that the fact it has two engines was sort of modeled in game. Well, at least when it takes one engine hit it still can turn around and aim until 2nd hit is dealt or something like that. Would help it out a lot giving it any fighting back capabilities.
