Traxxas Maxx ESC fan fix

The ESC fan broke on my Traxxas Maxx after the first battery pack, and I was not really happy with it. Here's my solution to mount a better and sturdier fan in its place.

These ProTek fans from Amain are a great replacement for the MAXX. The stock fans are 35x35x10, so the proper ProTek fan to replace these with would be PTK-2113 also available at Amain, these would snap right into place, but if you go with the 30x30 there's some play but once the new hardware is tightened down they don't move. One issue I ran into, took me four times of taking the fans off and back on again to get them to work was the tiny rubber bump stop glued to the top of the plastic housings on both the Motor and ESC, remove these!!!! They serve some purpose for the stock fans but all they do is provide friction on the ProTek fans and they don't turn. At first I thought it was the wires being crossed as was the case in the video, not for me, both my ProTek fans matched right up and fired up like industrial exhaust fans once I removed those rubber thingies. All things being said, order the 35x35x10 ProTek cans, remove the rubber thingies and no need to buy specialty hardware.

The fan size is the same like on the Armma 6S rig. So I don't get it was Traxxas did there, because my fan also busted within the first Thanks for the tipp!

I put this fan in and it works good but I notice when its upside down it sounds like its struggling to turn. Has anyone else noticed that?

Wow, now fan issues? I've already seen people breaking something in the front knuckle and someone lost teeth on their spur gear. All while driving "normal" or not too rough. It's looking bad for the $520 + MAX so far.

Hey idk if your still answering questions . But my maxx on the esc all 4 lights started flashing red rapidly . I noticed the fan wasnt spinning any more and there was some debree holding the fan from spinning . Would replacing the fan fix my issue or is my esc trashed ?

Does it matter that the fan being recommended is rated for 8.4 volts. I know over amping it is supposed to shorten life how long did it work for. I guess much longer then stock either way right.
