Hubble Telescope Records RARE Kilonova Explosion! | REAL IMAGES

In one of our recent videos, we talked about how a collision between two neutron stars or a neutron star and a black hole could be catastrophic for the entire universe. Such an event is called a Kilonova or a macronova or sometimes an r-process supernova.

In 2013 Hubble telescope revealed a new type of stellar explosion produced by the merger of two compact objects which were discerned to be either two neutron stars or a neutron star and a black hole. This was perhaps the first time we clearly saw the cosmic objects colliding in a gamma-ray burst, but the first Kilonova was quite possibly observed in 2008.

Welcome to Factnomenal and let’s look at all the images that Nasa’s Hubble Telescope has managed to capture of Kilonovas.

Thanks to the addition of videos like this in congruence to school, my 9 year old is stoked (and getting more knowledgeable by the day) about astronomy. It's beautiful to see him run outside, nightly (and daily) with his little telescope and noting the differences in the sky. Thankyou for the content!

If only we could get a picture of a magnetar star here hoping the Webb gets just more cool stuff like the Hubble.

I'm genuinely curious as to how far in the distant past the actual event took place.

Shoutout to the camera man who traveled to a different galaxy.

Kilonova packs more of a punch than a supernova i believe, but a supernova is much much brighter !

There are a lot of things I can't wait to see from JWST, but I hope they do a series of deep field images, like the one they did with Hubble. Maybe we will get lucky and actually observe an object cross over the observable edge of the universe.

This is really cool! Can't wait for JWST to show us some new things

Gosh I love Hubble. I'm excited for what Webb will reveal to us about the history of the universe but there's a special place in my heart for Hubble

It is great to know and see how Hubble continues to discover and view new celestial host. I believe James Webb will immensely continue this endeavor to expand our understanding of deep space, and to learn more about ourselves, and our connectivity to the heavens.

Hopefully they will check out the optics of the Webb more thoroughly than they did the Hubble!

I’m stoked about human presence in space, but perplexed as to the fact that we can land a probe on an asteroid but can’t build something to clean up Al the space junk

Knowing a bee can be seen. Just tells me we aren't safe...

I wonder what Hubble will think when it sees james Webb going past it lol. Thank you Hubble for all the amazing pics.

What's the last thing you'd do if an asteroid was 1 hour away from striking Earth? 😯

Super excited, but also super nervous. No where near as nervous as the people working on blasting the telescope into space, but if this fails. Who knows when we could get another one.. might be decades.

Kilonova learn something new everyday 👍👍👍👍👍 thanks 😊

It's a great find as long as the gamma ray burst doesn't head our way.

Ig I'm like a Gamma burst in bed.

2 seconds I'm finished.
