Van man or cyclist #baddrivers

Was the van man right to try and overtake the car who is about to turn into a side road, or should the van man wait 3 seconds to let the car completely turn into the side road for a better view of the road ahead.
What about the cyclist, should they not of entered the main road whilst the car is turning into their side road?
What do you think? Who if any is at fault in this situation?

Crazy how everybody says its the cyclist fault because the van behind you was too impatient to finish your turn.

Both at fault the cyclist should have waited to see what the following vehicle did and the van should not have started to overtake with vehicles waiting at the junction. Its irrelevant if the vehicle is a cyclist waiting to pull out

The cyclist made a serious error in emerging from a side road without taking effective observation with our vehicle blocking the view. The van makes a similar error insofar as he cannot see the road ahead. Many drivers swing out around a left turner because they are following too close to see effectively. The better option is to fall back to generate an acceleration area which you can subsequently use once you see the whole area remaining after the left turner has completed.

This is a classic and featured in a biking magazine in the 80’s in a monthly feature called hard lessons.
In that example, it cost a young lad overtaking a milk float his life when a car pulled out.
Folk are emoted by the cyclist’s vulnerability but it is in fact the cyclist who is totally wrong..
The cyclist should have obeyed the give way markings on the road.
It matter not that a van was on the ‘wrong’ side of the road,
But the Highway code does warn of the dangers of overtaking at junctions…

Cyclist should have waited, but the van shouldn't overtake at the junction. Both need educating.

Van at fault overtaking vehicle i assume indicated left turnThe van did not have a clear view of road . Cyclist was listening to his music on head phones not sure of tune

They were both in the wrong. Cyclist reacted too early to you indicating a left turn and the van should have held back until you left the road in front of him. Surely??

Both but I don't think the van indicates before pulling out

Out of 3, 2 were wrong. Driver (Van behind the car) should have waited and not have been impatient which could have affected the driver in front leading to other problems

I wouldnt have done what that cyclist did even if i was in a car.

Both were wrong. Cyclist is vulnerable and if they value their safety needs to learn to assess risk. I’m a cyclist and a driver.

it's fine you can hear the indicator and the cyclist did look both ways exciting...that being said the van behind was an impatient muppet and should not of overtaken absolutely no need and lucky he didnt hit the cyclist

Van was in the wrong BUT the cyclist should of been more aware

Don't perform any overtaking manoeuvre near T junctions, for the very reason shown in the video of the possibility of unsighted emerging traffic & road users...
