If I'm being honest, as long as you have passion, the time, and a strong reason to learn it, it's not too bad. The only time (in my opinion) it gets hard is when you're tackling the mid-intermediate stage. This goes for if not all, most languages tbh. Just put in your time, read a lot, listen a lot, watch dramas with Korean subtitles, practice a lot, and memorize vocabulary in your preferred way of learning.

I have been learning Korean for over 4 years now and I can say that apart from Hangeul (the Korean alphabet) which is easy to learn, Korean is an extremely difficult and complex language. Progressing from beginner to intermediate is a huge step, and from intermediate to advanced an even bigger step. If you are a native speaker of a European language, Korean words can be difficult to retain (learning hanja around the intermediate level will help) and the grammar is spawned from the pit of hell, with several structures to express a similar meaning and lots of exceptions. But, on the plus side, Korean is a beautiful language and the culture is fascinating. But make no mistake, unless you live in Korea AND work on your Korean several hours a day, it takes a long time to master the language at a level where you are comfortable talking about more complex topics.

My native language is Norwegian so I speak Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, English, Spanish and Korean. I was pretty much fluent in Korean after about 8 months and I found it very easy

The only thing I have found difficult in korean is the Pronunciation and intonation...the word order is easier than English; since, it is similar to the word order of my native language.

Good luck to you all. I studied Korean back in the early 2000's at Yonsei and Sogang university in Seoul. To give you a background, I studied Finance in university so I have a decent idea of a difficult subject. Korean was so difficult for me. As many say, it's so hard to get from each level.. beginner, intermediate, advanced.

I had some classmates in Yonsei who were US military linguists. They told me that Korean was rated as the second most difficult language for English speakers to learn. Most difficult was Japanese due to the Chinese characters in it.

There are so many more resources now than back in the day. I believe watching drama's help a lot but you really need a solid understanding to get past 오빠 사랑해, 맛있다, 진짜 types of words.

It's a fun language though... be ready for some suffering if you're taking it seriously. I remember that the night before tests, I was studying hard in the library. My Japanese friends were partying and barely studied.. they got 90% and I got 72% lol!

I tell my kids to study languages, choose an easy one and choose a hard one. Maybe Chinese and Spanish...

I was thinking about learning either Korean or Japanese after Mandarin, but I feel like I will not have any opportunities to use it. How do you get to use Korean or integrate it in your lifestyle? For Mandarin, I have a lot of chinese friends, and the language has a lot of speakers.

I'm not fluent in Korean so far. I'm something between A2-B1 and know approximately 2, 000 worlds, so I can't comment it objectively, but as I learnt, Korean has some difficult parts as the honorific system is and also the sentence structure, which you need to get use to, but the grammar overall is way to easier than my native Czech language. My Korean friend who study Czech thinks it's the hell on the earth. 😅 I think because of the honorific system there are plenty of verb stems and one thing you can say in many ways, this is why the book of Korean grammar is so big I think... 😅 But one's you catch the some rules, you can without bigger problems learn many of the verb stems and it's not so complicated. This is my perspective for now... I will see later... 😅😅

For me Korean is harder than Chinese and Japanese even though it has an alphabet. It has the most complex grammar and pronunciation of the three
