Rick Singer, the mastermind of the "Operation Varsity Blues" college admissions scandal that federal prosecutors say was "breathtaking in its audacity and levels of deception it involved," was sentenced Wednesday to three and a half years in prison.

It's the longest sentence in the scandal but short of the six years requested by prosecutors. Singer will be on supervised release for three years afterward.

Singer, a 62-year-old businessman from Newport Beach, California, had pleaded guilty to charges of racketeering conspiracy, money laundering conspiracy, obstruction of justice and conspiracy to defraud the United States.

Yeah, because the people that run admissions offices at colleges and universities are always truthful and honest. Like everything else, it’s all about the money.

None of those people received adequate jail time for their crimes.

This guy should be locked up forever. What a waste!

They should also take away the kids’ degrees and discredit all grades up to this point with expulsion. Erase their existence in whatever school. That way it hits home and affects them and their kids directly. Otherwise, the parents’ pockets are long enough to where this doesn’t actually matter.

As the proud grandmother/guardian of a student athlete, now recent college graduate, I find the sentence way too low. However I’m pleased to see them held accountable. My grandson only followed my lead as he watch me earn my MSW. We lost sleep, travelled with his team they studied in between. We made sacrifices to get into school and paid our dues as well as held at least 3.00 gpa. I only say that to say we earned our way in. It’s disrespectful to those of us who paid our dues applied and got into schools on our merit. As a POC and female, it’s also disrespectful when some of the same people would assume I’m in the classroom or hall because of affirmative action and not one time did my transcript been viewed. So when the case broke, I was furious. I’m wondering if their children couldn’t make the cut. If not, what’s happening they aren’t prepared. If mom and dad want their kids in these institutions, why not ensure they are prepared. Next they would’ve been paying for grades…as a person who graduated from a community college and 2 universities, I’m a little familiar of the grind and the fact they got caught cheating is a sign of relief.

“After four years two trials and 50 convictions “. 3 1/2 years for the brain 🧠 behind the whole scheme? The horror. I really feel sorry for the kid who busted his or her arses and they couldn’t get that slot that was bought and paid 💰for by some rich kid’s parents.

He should have gotten way more time …. Helicopter parents will be helicopter parents… he is the real villain in all of this and he threw the parents under the bus. They could not have committed the crimes if he did facilitate it

How is this different from lets say donating a building to a campus or money to the booster club alumni? And how was this case cracked open, how did someone not already involved come to know the particulars and be able to prove them against so many different individuals? Possibly the results of somebdy salty about being squeezed outta the kick-back collections and payout processes?

Ohhh please this whole thing is just a show. Reality: it is still going on daily and not only in school but in corporation as well! The rich and famous always get their ways.

LOL, it took longer for the trial to complete than what he will be serving in prison. What a joke.

3.5 years = 18 months minimum security snoopy camp. The other 50 got slaps on the wrist and small dents in their wallets. Shameful

Woooww 3 years for such a huge problem. There are students out there that study night and day to get into these schools.
Too little sentences for everyone that was involved parents, coaches and mastermind.
The students should have does degrees revoked.
Not worthy of those diplomas

So many involved got a slap on the wrist like 2 weeks in jail for an offence that people usually get years for.
