Mara Wilson's mom was suffering from breast cancer and hospitalized during the production of the movie. So Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman offered to take care of Mara. And unlike their characters in the movie, they treated her like she was one of their own. Unfortunately, Mara's mom passed away a few months before the movie hit theaters, but was lucky enough to see the movie at a special advanced screening before her death.

Late 80s to late 90s were imo the best era for kid and fantasy movies matilda spacejam power rangers etc the list goes on I think back I smile but even now I'm 37 and if they come on my kids watch them and adore them and I to admit il watch them with my kids. Growing up in an abusive household these movies allowed me to escape mentally and imagine california as it was in the 90s I hope I make sense im not very good at explaining things. And to anyone who hasn't yet seen matilda unless your a toddler where have you been? Under a rock lol what a great well made movie like loads in that era. I miss the 90s ❤

Matilda is such an important movie from my childhood! Such a great story inspiring children to learn, they don’t do Movies like that anymore. Danny Devito should make more family movies for today!

Im in my 30s now, and i still love this movie. I loved it when i was a kid. My daughter is 20, and i have such great memories getting to watch it with her when she was little. Its one of those movies that will always be fun to watch and remind you of how fun it was to be a kid in the 90s.

Wow I didn't know Danny directed that movie while also giving one of the the most despicable characters in film. Matilda is probably one of if not my favorite kid movies growing up!
