Mara Wilson played Matilda in the original 1996 film, and she was offered a cameo that she ended up turning down. Mara mentioned that she didn’t want to fly all the way to England for just one day of filming. Likewise, Pam Ferriss played Miss Trunchbull in the original film, and she was also offered a cameo in this rendition. In her case, she wasn’t able to take the cameo since it would’ve interfered with rehearsals for a play she was in. On top of all of that, Ralph Fiennes was originally cast as Miss Trunchbull.
