This film was created as a one-of-a-kind self-tape audition by actress Emily Ashby and the filmmakers for the role of Teela in the announced "Masters of the Universe" film (which has since been delayed... again). To that end, the film isn’t a “fan film” in the traditional sense, as its original purpose and story was more of a showcase for Emily rather than an unofficial attempt at expanding the MOTU canon. Of course, we absolutely hope fans of MOTU and beyond enjoy it and take it for what it is: a rollicking good time watching a classic MOTU character kicking butt in a Hong Kong / Jackie Chan inspired piece, having fun with the fabled Power Sword!

All original music featured in the film was composed by Gerrit Wunder (CW's "Stargirl," Netflix's "Slumberland") exclusively for the film. Permission to use "Heartless Madness" by Dynazty was received by the filmmakers courtesy of AFM Records. Original sound by 10 time Emmy nominee Patrick Hogan ("Cobrai Kai," "The Umbrella Academy"). Stunts by Hong Kong stunt actor and coordinator Christian "Kang" Bachini.

The following comment provides more information from the filmmakers about the making of the film and why it was created. Also, be sure to leave us a like after watching the film, and please share, share, share! Thank you for watching!

"The film was made first and foremost as an ambitious, if not audacious, self tape audition for actress Emily Ashby for the role of Teela in the announced 'Masters of the Universe' film from Netflix. In deciding to do something that has rarely been done, if ever, on such a scale for an audition, it was our hope that it would at least get some buzz and attention for Emily with the role and possibly further consideration from the powers that be.

To that end, the film isn’t a “fan film” in the traditional sense, as its original purpose and story was more of a showcase rather than an unofficial attempt at expanding the MOTU canon. Of course, we absolutely hope fans of MOTU and beyond enjoy it and take it for what it is: a fun time watching a character from MOTU kicking butt and having some fun with the fabled Power Sword. If we approached it like a normal fan film, we would have included more characters, settings, etc. from the world of MOTU than we chose to as well as making it a much longer film more true to the established canon. Instead we created our own trio of original characters for her to do battle with as again, we were creating a showcase for Emily in the role of Teela and bringing such characters as He-Man or Skeletor would have distracted from this purpose - and been a lot more expensive!

As someone who grew up a child of the 80’s, I never thought I’d actually play in the MOTU sandbox as a filmmaker (officially or unofficially). It would be an incredible pleasure and opportunity to properly dive into world of MOTU in the future, with a lot more money to boot, but if this is all I'm able to ever do with it then I'm cool with it. We hope you have as good a time watching the film as we did in taking this big swing out in the middle of nowhere, with limited resources, a tiny crew yet talented crew, and a lot of gumption.

The film was inspired by and styled after Hong Kong and Jackie Chan action films. We called in a lot of favors with some of our established friends within the industry. This includes Gerrit Wunder, who composed the original music for the film and who is the composer for DC’s 'Stargirl' and Netflix’s 'Slumberland, ' along with a big upcoming series on Netflix to be announced soon. Our sound design was by 10-time Emmy nominated sound editor Patrick Hogan of 'Cobra Kai' and 'The Umbrella Academy.' Hong Kong stunt actor Christian “Kang” Bachini coordinated the stunts. The film was shot by DP Matt Devino, who shot the film on a RED Komodo with Atlas Anamorphic lenses.

If anything, think of the film as a "What If..." episode centered around the MOTU rather than Marvel. We're not trying to be "woke." We're not trying to be "feminists." We're just telling a simple story about a hero from the MOTU kicking a little ass and asking that "what if..." question in the ultimate hope that our star, Emily Ashby, can get some momentum and attention for the role and open doors. If you're down with that, then by all means share!

Hollywood is a real deception. Indie movie doing what the "great directors" NEVER will do. Epic movie! Congratulations from the bottom of my heart!

That was actually really good. The costumes and combat were good and while obviously some simple dialogue, the actors did a great job in their parts. Well done guys.

That is the beauty of "fan film". You gotta appreciate it because you never know what gems you will see.

Truly the best audition tape possible, I love seeing all the exposure this is getting too. Congrats to you all, you managed to get some live auction MOTU out there for the fans, Sony wasn't able to get anything out in years of trying. Let's hope Netflix actually does soon, I hope they see this and cast Emily, shes a perfect blend of bad ass, beautiful, and sass that make up the perfect Teela IMO. I enjoyed the other characters as well, Cy-Am, Bonan, Chain Male, they all brought energy and entertainment to the project. The costumes were well done, the filming, location selection, special effects, just all really good for this fan film/audition. No matter if anything more ever comes from this project, this by itself was an absolute joy and just pumps me up every time I rewatch. Again thank you everyone who helped bring this to life. Lets go Emily!

Didn't like Teela being called the "B" word however it was fuunny! Dude this is genius. Perfect tone for what a masters movie should be. Swashbuckling mix with badass. Super Dope!

Great Job Bohemian Industries. This actress is PERFECT for Teela if another real motion picture MOTU movie ever gets made again . Something to replace the 1987 movie. Let's hope it happens while she's still young !!! Don't won't to let to many years pass by .

Gotta say this is better than Revelation.
Emily makes a great Teela. Hope she gets the part.

Since the first episode 40 years ago, I've been a MOTU fan; at 3 years old my dad would yell at me for climbing up on the arm of the couch and yelling "I HAVE THE POWER!" with the light-up power sword my grandfather bought for me. Any real MOTU fan knows the franchise and fandom is all about doing creative things and introducing fantastic ideas... That being said, this was a darn good project. I have to admit that spinning sword catch was epic. Great job everyone, you showed that fan-made can be incredible. You've got this lifetime fans vote. 👍🏻

This is great! It really showcases the skills and talents of everyone involved. I hope Emily Ashby gets the role, she would be awesome as Teela in the Netflix series. Also can’t wait to see what movies Elwon Bakly lands from this. He really should be in just about every medieval/fantasy movie. Nicely done Bohemian Industries.

I showed my daughter this video on Sunday afternoon. She really liked it and said Emily makes a really good Teela. She also said she likes that Teela likes how she likes her too, since I told her Emily thought it was really cool how my daughter liked Teela based on her skills and abilities over She-ra’s power of Grayskull. Thanks for joining us on the podcast over the weekend!

He-man 80's cartoon still and always the best and MOTU movie is a classic. Rate this 6.50 for the effort and different approach. Acting needs a bit of tweaking, pull back on some dialog and expression as not to be over done and add a little more immersion. Actors and actress beautiful enough for the parts. overall nice job everyone.

This is the way Teela needs to be portrayed instead of that horrible Netflix animated series

Thank you for using a performer for Teela that actually looks like she’s an athlete. Not too shabby for an audition film, it’s well made. Good job guys!
